Summary
In the year following our wedding, Imogen and I found ourselves at odds, our love tested by the weight of crowns and choices. Her brilliance shone in decisions like reorganizing Drylliad’s grain stores or planning a festival to lift spirits, but others like a risky trade deal or reducing border patrols that faltered, leaving me to mend the fallout. She acted alone, hating to be guided, while I kept secrets, my reckless nature unchanged despite my efforts to explain myself. Arguments grew, sharp and frequent, over her choices and my silence. I covered her mistakes, she challenged my walls, and the space between us widened. Friends like Roden and Mott noticed, their concern heavy, as I wondered if we could keep standing together or if we were meant to stand apart.

Summary
In this alternate version of 'Captive Kingdom', the royal family’s destiny shifts when Regent Conner and Captain Gregor conspire to wipe them out using the lethal Dervanis oil. Darius, the crown prince, is saved by his former nursemaid Trea, who administers a rare antidote and a sleeping draught before fleeing with him on a boat. Their escape is thwarted when Conner’s men pursue them, leading to their capture by the Prozarians in Belland. For two years, Darius negotiates with Captain Strick, unaware that his family’s death has been staged by Conner, who uses an orphan lookalike to maintain the ruse. Meanwhile, one and a half years after Jaron claims the throne, a Prozarian attack brings him to Belland, where he finds Darius alive. Initial tensions arise as Darius feigns loyalty to the Prozarians to protect Belland’s people, straining his bond with Jaron. Through reconciliation and unity, the brothers liberate Belland, and Darius rises as its king.

Summary
Comprises of slice of life headcanons in a canon-divergent Ascendance Trilogy post-The Shattered Castle, where Jaron navigates kingship , joined by his friends and brother Darius( real- brother in this world), back to Carthya from Belland, in a slice-of-life tale of festival chaos and camaraderie. Buried in papers, Jaron trades quips with Roden, teases Tobias and shares nostalgic moments with Darius with their past antics echoing through Drylliad’s bustling preparations. The group tackles regents’ complaints and festival frenzy, blending loyalty, mischief, and the bittersweet weight of shared history in a mostly canonical Carthya.
These are mostly one-shot chapters and some chapters are having more than one one-shots. Mostly my headcanons of how Carthyans spend time after book 5.
(In this alternate universe, set post-The Shattered Castle, events, the story diverges with no marriage occurring for Jaron at the end of book 5)

The Last Night of the Year by LaylaM20

Summary
A new year fic where everyone in Carthya celebrates New year's eve. Mildly Canon. (Actually you can take it as mostly Canon.)
Basically Jaron experiments with Gunpowder and accidentally discovers fireworks on New Year night. Also includes funny resolution scenes. Gunpowder was used too much for wars and battles. Carthyans deserve to know that they can make beautiful things too.
In Carthya, the last day of the year had always been loud, crowded, and ceremonial to the point of exhaustion.
This year, just like the last year, had been impossibly long and different. But tonight, I wanted none of the old ceremonies. I had no desire to celebrate this the way we always had.
The idea came to me on an evening when Tobias and I were both too tired to have a single rational thought. I joked that I might start experimenting with gunpowder again for amusement. Tobias, equally exhausted, mentioned how different metals, when mixed properly, could change the color of an explosion. He said he had read about it in a book. Though he doubted anyone would be foolish enough to try it. Naturally, I decided that meant it was worth attempting.

Summary
(Posting it early for Darius’s birthday tomorrow.)
Jaron rises before dawn with a plan, determined to give his brother Darius a birthday unlike any he has ever known.
Before he could speak more, I crossed the room and took his hands in both of mine. They were warm, steady, familiar in a way that went deeper than memory. I squeezed them, then pulled him forward and wrapped my arms around him in a sudden embrace.
“Happy birthday Darius,” I said into his shoulder. I realized how long it had been since I’d done this without thinking twice.
He stiffened in surprise, then relaxed, returning the embrace after a heartbeat. “It’s been a long time since we celebrated it together,” he said quietly.

Summary
Roden’s Birthday fic.
I remained behind in the throne room, seated at the long table pretending to read a report I had already memorised. Across from me, Harlowe stayed seated, his gaze lingering somewhere beyond the high windows, where the light fell pale and winter-thin across the stone.
After a moment, he murmured, almost to himself, “The day is near.”
I glanced up. “What day?”
He smiled faintly, the sort of smile that carried memory rather than mirth. “Roden’s birthday. It’s next week.”
I stared at him. “Roden's birthday?” The words surprised me as much as the thought. “Roden never told me.”

Summary
“I am writing to Kerwyn to let him know of the delay.” After a beat, I added, “But that will leave us with nothing to do tomorrow.”
Roden considered this, then crossed the room and sat on the edge of the bed. “I could find a swordsmith in town,” he said. “Have my blade sharpened while we are here.”
That made me sigh and I set down my quill. “Yes, but I would be alone. You are so remarkably inconsiderate, Roden.”
His head snapped up. “What?” He glared at me. “What do you mean by that? What is your problem?”
“What I mean,” I said, turning slightly in my chair, “We are both free tomorrow, and Benton was your home for most of your life, was it not? You grew up here. Yet your first thought is to abandon me for a swordsmith. Surely you could spare a day to show me around. Why don't we go out tomorrow and spend the day here?”
Roden's head snapped as he stood up quickly, staring at me as if I had spoken in some unfamiliar language. “You want to spend time with me tomorrow?”
Basically Jaron and Roden hang out in Benton as friends as they don't get to do that.

Summary
I nodded. “You look beautiful,” I said. It was true. Though beauty was hardly the point right now.
“Thank you,” she answered softly.
But my smile quickly fell away. My heart had been dreading this moment since the invasion ended today and since the moment I realized, I had been clinging to a hope that had already changed.
I drew in a breath. As difficult as it was to speak the next few words, they needed to be spoken.
An alternate ending to TSC where Jaron realizes it is best if he doesn't marry Imogen and breaks his betrothal to her in the great hall of his Castle. He will always care for Imogen but he isn't in love with her anymore as he was before.
The story describes the aftermath of the events across the five books as Jaron reflects on all that that has happened so far and talks with his friends and his brothers. The battles he has faced have wounded him in ways no one has ever known. His condition is no different than that of the castle. But the Castle can be repaired and in some ways he is healing as well. Besides he knows he isn't alone anymore. After all he has people who have become his found family to make him feel more at peace than he ever has.

Summary
“You’re always busy. Fight me Jaron.”
I raised a brow. “You have an odd way of asking for companionship.” A beat passed, then I sighed. “You truly wish to fight?”
He grinned, “Afraid to lose?”
I glared at him. “I never lose, Roden.” I considered him for a moment. After another beat, I added. “Very well. Just, let me get my sword. But if I win, you will stop challenging me for at least a week.”
Basically Roden challenged Jaron and they both fall down during their fight. Fink comes in at the wrong moment and misinterprets the whole scenario.

Summary
Finally, I asked. “Well? What did you wish to speak with me?”
She smiled shyly. “It is about Tobias. His birthday is coming soon.”
Amarinda spoke again. “I want to surprise him. I want him to celebrate his birthday properly this year.”
“Then you should go on ahead,” I replied. “He would like it.”
She slowed her steps and turned to face me fully. “That is why I need your help.”
I stopped walking. “My help?” I studied her though I already suspected what she meant. “Why would you need my help?”
Rather than answer she stared at me and raised her brow slightly, as if that alone should explain everything. After a moment I sighed, already knowing her message. “Of course. You want me to plan it.”

Mott sat to my right from where he observed the scene around us.
Finally, he looked at me and furrowed his brows. “I found the letter you wrote me and a gift in my room this morning. Why are we having a picnic today, Jaron?”
I grinned. “Can't you tell?”
He studied me for a moment, then slowly said. “I certainly can.”

Summary
Jaron wakes up at night after having a nightmare about his time in the Avenian camp and hears his own voices speaking to him. Roden walks in at the worst possible moment and later tries to talk with him. ( This is basically a jaroden comfort fic. )
“Well,” he said, annoyance sharpening his tone, “what now? I always knew you held grudges, Jaron, but have you developed a loathing against me now?”
Normally I would have answered him with some cutting remark, which could have been the start of a glorious fight, loud enough to wake half the castle at this time of night. But I was not normal. I had no strength left in me to argue with him. The room felt too small and my head throbbed painfully from the nightmare and the voices I had heard a while ago.
I closed my eyes, then sank onto the edge of the bed as I let my head fall into my hands.
“I prefer to be alone right now Roden,” I said in a voice barely above a whisper.

Summary
It is Nila's birthday. Roden and Jaron spend a whole day with her in the city.
I smiled at her. “It is. This street is older than the castle itself. I used to come here long before anyone thought I should not.”
Nila giggled at that. “Did you get into trouble here?”
“Frequently,” I replied. “That is how you know it was worth visiting.”
Roden groaned beside me. “Why am I not surprised?”
Nila laughed again and tugged gently at my hand. “Show me your favorite place.”

Summary
Jaron doesn't like celebrating his birthdays and usually gets sad near it as he still misses his parents but his friends plan to make him smile and give a birthday surprise.
Tobias folded his arms at once. “Why did you drag us all here, Roden? Jaron is in the middle of a discussion with Kerwyn and Harlowe. If he finds out we are talking about him without him, you know how angry he will get.”
“I know. But it's about the way he’s acting lately,” Roden said.
Fink nodded in agreement. “Yes! He’s not himself these days. Even when he jokes, it doesn’t feel real. And even when he smiles it's not real either.”
Amarinda folded her hands. “He hasn't looked happy lately.”
“It must be his birthday. It is only four days away,” Tobias spoke in a gentle and low voice. “And his parents’ death anniversary passed two weeks ago.”
Roden glanced over at him. “Then we should do something for him. He needs to smile.”
