(1) A debilitating fear of sharp objects, often onset by related trauma. The untrained mind sees a keen edge or honed tip and, instead of anything productive, hides within itself. Its precautions are sedimentary; unspeakable memories hide within dark recesses, which layer atop foggy pockets burying unpleasant avenues. The aim is to avoid, not overcome. The host is worst off for it.
(2) A terrible thing to have when your god demands blood.

In the middle of it all unfurls an untold world. As he marches, Aspen tramples over ledgers, notes, maps. On his desk, the mess continues. Postcards of places beyond the monastery walls. Blurry photos starring him, two related women, and a consistently teared-away face. Past, past, and more past.
If nothing else, the man has history. Even when they met, long ago during a lumber mishap, Times felt his renown. His du jour. An air suggesting he’s been everywhere, done everything, but never for long. What he’s been up to, he’ll never tell. His fleeting endeavours lie buried beneath polite smiles and practiced charisma. Not quite a persona. Not quite authenticity, either.
Aspen's always going through more than he lets on. Times helps in the only way they know how.
