Summary
There’s a rattling in Peter’s bones. A deep hum underlying the high-toned ringing in his ears. The world is vibrating, pitter-pattering, and even opening his own eyes seems like a nearly impossible task.
He groggily pushes himself up, only just noticing both his wrists and ankles have been tied to the other. He blinks sluggishly—he’s probably been given something. He shouldn’t feel this weak.
It’s dark, but not pitch black. Peter looks around, trying to get his bearings—it’s rope keeping him tied up, a man with a gun snores away in the corner, it’s raining outside, a fly buzzes around lazily above the limp body of the Winter Soldier.
Wait—hold that thought.
The limp body of the Winter Soldier.

Summary
The first thing Peter realises as he wakes up is that he’s sitting upright in a chair, bound by ropes. Not what he expected to happen this Thursday but not the weirdest thing that's happened to him so ok. The first thing he needs to do is look around and observe his surroundings—
His surroundings currently involve presumably drugged and tied up Avengers. Avengers, who –excluding Tony Stark– have never seen him before and Tony Stark who only knows him as his intern.
Peter is so screwed.

May glances at where Peter lay, tossing and turning in his sleep, his face covered in sweat.
“How long until the helicarrier lands?” she asks, worrying her lip.
May doesn’t blame Maddie for what had happened. She knows how grief can take a person out of it, just like it did Peter when Ben died. Maddie fell behind, got attacked, and Peter made his choice—he put himself between her and the zombie, taking the bite in her stead.

Summary
The kid looked so young.
Far too young to experience being trapped in a burning building with no one other than a toy.
She was crying, begging for help. Snot was dripping down her face, scrunched and flushed from the smoke and crying.
He was so, so close. So close to saving her.
But he failed.
And the kid paid the price.
His spider-sense screamed at him but it wasn’t enough of a warning before the wooden support beam came crashing down on the kid, leaving only her hand and the toy visible.
