Summary
It was the smoke that trailed from Viktor’s lips when he stepped out from a black Lexus later that night. His back against the driver’s door, a cigarette from Mama between his fingers to ease his mind. When the leftover ash fell and struck against the concrete, Viktor entered the airport. His bangs swept over his eyes. His version of hiding behind a pair of shades. Viktor may’ve stuck out like a sore thumb with his suit and tie, but there were other bodyguards roaming the airport tonight.
Like a playground for an assassin, Viktor faded into the background at the turn of an eye. A switchblade up his arm, ready to strike. The barrel of a gun lurked behind his eyes, an angry demise for a world with lies.
Despite this profile, despite the edge in his name, Viktor Nikiforov had a photo album tucked away in his nightstand. For four years, he knew the sweet ache of a first love. For two more years, he remembered the dull echo of the engagement ring when it rolled onto the floor.

Summary
On the night Viktor proposed to Yuuri on that bridge in St. Petersburg, a jarring thought crept into Viktor's mind when he embraced Yuuri. It was an alternative reality of what would happen if they got married now.
“I realized at that moment, that I was never going to come home again and see Yuuri at the edge of the doorway, toothpaste crusted over his lips and Makkachin pressed against his shoulder. I’d never see him again at our breakfast table, where we sang and danced until gold never left our fingertips. At that moment, I realized what was happening and something inside began to ache.”

Summary
Some bonds were as fresh as blood and as deep as the gulf of Hasetsu. Some sacrifices were almost too hard to bear whenever Yuuko had to miss her dinners with her family.
From the three fish cakes, poking up from her ramen noodles, the slight pink edged along the perimeter reminded Yuuko of her daughters. Of how rosy their cheeks stood out when they received their nightly-cuddles. The bulbous egg, tucked over her spoon when a portion of broth met Yuuko’s lips, reminded her of Takeshi. Unbreakable on the outside, but soft and brimmed to the top with love when after shells were cracked and peeled back.
In Yuuko’s mind, at least, the faint touches and memories of her family made-up the difference of her not being at home with them.

Summary
"I want you to know exactly where I am, and where you can always find me."
In the moment before his death, Yuuri closed his eyes. As quickly as the sun had set before his skin, he felt its lingering warmth when his elbow brushed against Viktor’s. This stalemate between the pull and the trigger stopped everything to the microscopic level. Even Yuuri’s heart froze for a second. The rush of a bullet, perhaps, a hair's breadth from piercing the back of his skull. Even so, Yuuri felt at ease. Started from his toes, migrated up to his limbs, and to the rest of his extremities. Where the smallest things cumulated to one of the greatest moments in his life.
In the goodness of health, through bicker or strife, to the edge of the world or at the end of a knife, ‘til death did he part. These were the conditions, written in the pages of Yuuri’s heart, when he fell in love with Viktor. All over again.

Summary
For as long as Viktor could remember, Yuuri had a peculiar aversion when it came to suits.
Regular complaints about the cuffs being too short, infrequent discomforts when the fabric tugged at his skin, the tightness around his collar, restraining every breath-- how has someone not died yet from this 'fashion over function?'--and Yuuri had an odd tendency to buy jackets that were two sizes too big or too small for his frame--it was a mess that left a bitter taste in Yuuri's mouth when his fingers browsed along the hangers in his closet.
Even so, something in Yuuri stirred when he slowly peeled a suit jacket off from the crook of Viktor's shoulders. One vulnerable heart to another when the fabric crumbled under Yuuri's touch. His fingers already curled around Viktor's tie, undoing the knot that held Viktor's ugly, yet beautiful passion away from Yuuri's world. This touch felt familiar, but it was unlike anything Yuuri had done before when he peered into Viktor's eyes. Asking if he could continue, because whatever happened from here was by feeling alone. No rationale, if Yuuri could help it, when Viktor sealed his response with a kiss.

Summary
“You might be a nightmare dressed as a daydream, but even I know when the nightmares end. Sweetheart,” a kiss rested against Yuuri’s ear and Viktor won their little game. Every second ticked against their breaths when Yuuri loosened his apron. The fabric trickled down from his torso and crumbled against his lap. His arms loosely draped over the back of Viktor’s shoulders, more than ready for another kiss.
