Summary
Link's father died two years ago. Zelda's mother has been gone for a decade. And the Calamity is at their doorstep.
When Zelda goes missing from her bed one night, Link knows that she won't have gone to research Sheikah technology without him. He knows that if he wants to find her, he'll have to allow his own grief to guide him - all the way up Mount Hylia, towards something that he may not be able to protect her from.
And then they will have to guide each other back down.

The boy catches Link’s hat, pulling it off, and when Link swings around there’s a long needle just in front of his neck. A threat.
“What,” Link grits out through his teeth.
The boy makes another face. Disappointed. Link feels his blood pressure sky-rocketing. “Awful reflexes,” the boy says. “A wonder why the Goddess chose someone like,” he trails off, making another gesture that Link assumes he’s supposed to understand, “well, you.”

After Zelda's disappearance into the Gate of Time, it's decided that Sheik will accompany Link on the rest of his journey to act as a guide and maestro to the Goddess' Chosen Hero.

Summary
It had been ten thousand years without a great evil and many thought that the cycle of light and darkness had finally been broken. That evil would no longer rise and there would be no need for a hero or a princess to save them. Such things as demon kings and magical princesses and chosen heroes were turned into legends and stories to entertain children. They were turned into songs and poetry while the fragments of their reality faded from the world.
Until one day, the illusion of safety was broken. The sacred blade, hidden in an unchartable forest, protected by the ancient spirits, only able to be held by the fated hero, was pulled by the unluckiest of hands.
AKA
Link and Zelda break the cycle of fate by not following the formula. Link is a woman and Zelda still can't seem to grasp her promised sealing power.

He did something he didn't regret. Not even in the slightest. Of course he knew it wouldn't be good, that it would be called bad. How he sees himself and how he's treated leaves a foul taste in his mouth.
He wondered if he preferred that or the blood.
(TW for heavily implied child sexual assault (He does get what he deserves though), mentions of torture, it's aftermath, and physical effects, and a very very fucked up Link. Adding on for the fact there's one moment of drugging but nothing happens to him since it's just him being put to sleep)
He will always be the hero, though. Always.Was going to be a one shot and then I realized that this was too long to be a one shot. Too much planned for it. For him.
