———A Mitski Songfic? In my SOC fandom? More likely than you’d think. I had the idea for this fic after scream crying my way through the entirety of Mitski’s discography, so enjoy some no-plot-just-vibes kanej moments from a largely amorphous pre-SOC era of their relationship.
I envision these as the growing pains near the beginning era of their partnership, but who’s to say? Not me.
This may become more explicitly romantic as I go along, but for now I would say it’s canon-compliant if you squint. Roughly chronological, but like I said, it’s mostly just vibes.

Silence stretched between them as what she was suggesting loomed in front of him. The burns on his right arm were still hot from the fires that turned the Slat to ash. He could feel the ash on his face, in his hair, in his lungs. He considered Inej’s words and realized they rang true.
“I know a place they won’t think to look.”
