Summary
For John, he always thought he had two options in life; break down your problems, or let them break you.
He had always shattered whatever challenge came his way like glass, unwilling to let such small, insignificant matters affect him.
Yet, he was unaware of just how much damage their broken shards did to him, how much their debris piled at his feet.
But as long as they didn't break him, he was fine. As long as he could prove he wasn't weak, he didn't care how much damage he took.
How foolish...he was cracking at the seams and he didn't even notice it.

Summary
After the torture he was subjected to in the Readjustment Classes, John wasn’t sure how he could bear to live with himself anymore, not after everything he did as the Tyrant of New Bostin.
He wasn’t a good person. He was nothing but the hollow husk of a monster, something that should be left to fade away into the darkness—alone, forgotten.
But within that pit he was content with laying in, to let any shred of hope he could have wilt and die, a light pierced through the depths.
Unordinary, a book his dad wrote for him, and John finds it in himself to believe…maybe he can be a good person after all.
Or: William’s message truly gets through to John, he learns to help others with his power, and changes ripple throughout John’s life and the hierarchy that almost destroyed him because of it.

Summary
Ari had always been scared of the dark. Which was a little stupid, considering that her life quite literally revolved around it. But something about it had always creeped her out. Maybe it was because she never knew what lurked within it---or, more likely, it was because she knew what lurked within and didn't want to face it. Whatever the case, because of this fear, Ari had spent her whole life running away from the dark.
So perhaps Ari had been bold to assume she'd be able to escape the dark that followed her.
She had moved to Wellston to escape the chains that held her down, reform herself, and lead a better life, figuring that this was the new start she had always been hoping for.
Unfortunately for her, life was never that kind. And soon, she finds herself right back where she started---trapped in a web of lies and oppression, drowned out by the very power that had built her from the ground up.
Threatened to be consumed by the enemy that is her own mind, Ari makes the choice to confront the creature that had always plagued her in the dark.
She just never thought that the creature would be expecting her to find it.
