His arm automatically tightened, holding Jamie to him when it felt like all of his muscles were ready to spring into action, and he brushed his thumb over the high, flushed ridge of his cheek, gathering the liquid and then–for no reason Roy could even fathom much less explain–he brought the taste of Jamie’s tears to his own tongue. Jamie’s lips parted in a silent gasp, the color on his cheeks deepening, his wet eyes turning black as his pupils expanded.
