To feel Shane’s finger touch the choker so softly ignites the deepest parts of his fantasies, the ones where Shane takes his hand and closes it around his throat, just tight enough to make it difficult to breathe. Ryan’s breath is so shallow it makes him dizzy.
“What’s this?” Shane asks, voice barely audible over the music and chatter in the bar. Ryan keeps his eyes on Shane’s face, just to watch the way his eyes light with fire when their eyes meet again. It’s enough to send curls of arousal swimming in his stomach, lower even, his pants suddenly a hair too tight. Summary
Something has noticed Ryan and it isn’t content to just watch and wait. While Shane attempts to share his true sight with Ryan, things begin to quickly fall apart. Ryan thinks he’s losing his grip on reality and Shane takes entirely too long to figure out what’s really at play. They’re closer to one another than ever before, but it might not stay that way if they can’t beat what is coming for them.
Shane holds his wrists with both hands, his touch strangely gentle. “I’m gonna get something to clean you up with.”
“I don’t need to be cleaned up, I need you to tell me what the fuck that was,” Ryan says, getting increasingly louder as he speaks. “You said I was in danger,” he jabs at his own chest with a numb finger, “you could feel it.”
“Yes.”
“What was that?”
Shane’s gaze searches his face and Ryan doesn’t look away; he feels like he’s on the edge of a mental break and Shane is giving him nothing to hold onto.
Finally, Shane says, “A demon.”

He was never like this, before. He’d always had the hunger under control, didn’t need to feed often or much at all unless he had gone too long without. Food sustained him just as well, though it never did quite sate that itch, the craving for skin and sweat, breath and heat.
He could go weeks without indulging, though, or even months, and had done so before. It was ridiculous that a mere seven day fast had reduced him to this, panting against Shane’s collarbone as he’s pressed into the door, a groan tearing from his throat as Shane’s bony hips slot between his thighs.
He blames Shane: Shane and his goofy grin and sleepy eyes and messy hair. Shane and his huge hands and ridiculous layers and stupid laugh. Shane and his stubbled jaw and long legs and soft, deep sighs.
Shane and his taste, sweet and thick and rich on Ryan’s tongue, in his lungs, familiar and hot and so fucking good.

Shane snorts loudly. “Ryan, I love your muscles. But they don’t make you brave if you aren’t willing to do daring things, like bungee jumping or skydiving.”
“But I’d punch the fuck out of someone if they ever tried to hurt you. That’s brave, right?”
His boyfriend’s face softens, and he risks letting go of the wheel with one hand to give Ryan’s left bicep a nice, hard squeeze. “That’s real chivalrous of you, Hercules, but I was talking about being adventurously brave, not adrenaline-fueled brave.”
Or, shockingly, Ryan and Shane's sex life gets an upgrade because of a silly little argument they have one night in the car.
