“Ryan.” Shane breaks off and sits down again, slides his chair closer to Ryan’s, stares him down. “God, fuck, look at me, okay, I did this. I did this, this is my case, this is mine, everything you’re talking about—”
Ryan can’t help it: he laughs. It comes out a little anxiously, but it’s a laugh all the same, because Shane can’t really expect him to buy into this, right?
And Shane looks—well, murderous is either the wrong word or the right one. “I’m not kidding.”
“You really want me to believe—”
“You entertain all possible theories, right?” Shane says, exasperated and angry, and Ryan notices it’s the first time he’s ever said that seriously. “That’s what this stupid show is—that’s what you do. So entertain this one.”
All at once, it stops being funny. Something the size of a golf ball seems to lodge itself high in Ryan’s throat. He realizes it’s alarm, fear, a caged bird thrashing against the bars inside himself. He’s waiting for Shane to break, to burst into laughter, to say it’s all a stupid joke, but it doesn’t happen.
“What the fuck,” he croaks out.

What shook him more, however, was the image of Shane, oddly disjointed and pale with too-long fingers and too-long legs (more so than usual). From Ryan’s angle he could barely make out Shane’s face, but what he could see was terrifying. His mouth was open wide, wide, wide and it looked more like a cut in his face than anything, and it - like the Shadow Man - was absorbing the light around it. His eyes were too-huge and after a moment, Shane looked at Ryan and his eyes were gone. Two gaping, black masses like pits of void looking the same as his mouth.

Shane Alexander Madej was never one to do things in half measures. He only had one gear, always dialed up to 11.
He'd slaved for long hours across many nights over his theater display for Puppet History. He'd combed through thousands of files of Ryan's audio recordings from Unsolved to add Ryan's voice to the Hot Daga series. He'd research for his Watcher shows until he was physically unable to stay awake.

Ryan’s shout of protest is halfway out of his throat when it gets stuck. His face flushes hot and something else coils under his belly button as he watches Shane turn away to grab his box again. His co-host is not looking back at Ryan, instead he takes long strides down the hallway with the props and Ryan nearly chokes trying to dislodge the remark in his throat. It’s nonsense. It’s unprecedented. It’s frankly ridiculous.
But Ryan, who up to this point was absolutely sure that he was comfortably straight, has the worst boner in his life since puberty.
And he is pretty sure that Shane’s comment is to blame for it.Fuck.
