Summary
In a society gilded with manners and marbled halls, two siblings crafted of essence and machinery must learn to play roles they were never made for.
Carlo is earnest and thoughtful, struggling to make sense of gentleman’s clubs, flirtation, and the weight of a legacy he never asked for. Angelina moves through ballrooms and teas with sharp eyes and a sharper wit but every curtsy hides a mechanical truth. Their creator, Geppetto, vowed to be a better father, but finds himself just as lost as his children in the maze of social expectations, eligible matches, and whispered judgments.
But beneath the silks and powdered masks, something stirs.
Puppets are beginning to move without strings. Whispers of machines acting on their own spread like smoke. A glint in the eyes of street marionettes. The snap of thread in the dead of night.
The world is changing and the Geppetto twins might be all that stands between order and chaos. But can they survive together as their own hearts ache for each other or will the world tear them apart?

On the outside looking in Krat was this wonderful and prosperous city thanks to the Alchemists. Like any city it has its issues. From faulty, to rouge puppets, to the Alchemist experiments getting loose or someone sick. Krat was home to those who called it home. Stella was a citizen of Krat, raised by her adopted siblings. For years, Carlo has been listening to an unknown male artist on YouTube — a hidden gem with barely fifty followers. Every night, that deep, soothing voice lulled him to sleep; every day, it played on repeat in his headphones.
One night, when Carlo sneaks out to attend a party in secret, the last thing he expects is to find him — the singer — performing live on a small stage in a dimly lit pub tucked between the city’s towering skyscrapers.
The next morning, Carlo wakes up with a pounding headache, a hangover worse than any before, and one shocking discovery: in his drunken state, he must have kissed that very same singer, Romeo — because photos of it are all over his social media.
To save his reputation, Carlo and Romeo come up with a plan — they’ll pretend to date for a while, then stage a breakup, so it doesn’t look like the son of New York’s richest man drunkenly kissed a stranger.

The last thing Lea saw when she closed her eyes in the Rose Garden was the corpse of the gray-haired stranger. The last thing she felt was grief. She and her mysterious companion had failed, and Romeo would pay the price just as Carlo had before. She had been living a nightmare which had finally come to its bloody, bitter end.
It must have been a nightmare. Why else would she have woken up?
Meanwhile, P awoke to a Krat even more foreign to him than the one he'd seen in Lea's time. This bright, thriving city had yet to experience the worst of its troubles. And with the Carlo of this time still alive and well, P realized he could keep it that way. Alone, it would be a difficult fight. Luckily, someone who had lived those same nightmares was just as determined to keep them from ever coming to pass.
