“How long have you felt unwell?” Caspian brushed a hand across his cheek.
Pressing into the gentle touch Edmund shrugged a single shoulder. “I woke early this evening after retiring. There is nothing to be concerned for. A stomach ache and nothing more.”
Caspian wasn’t one to let his concern be waved off. Lying back down and pulling in tightly he began to slowly rub the swollen space below his navel.
Head dropped forward, Edmund pressed his face into the crook of his neck. “K-Keep going,” he begged, his voice hardly audible.

Caspian let his touch linger, drawing his fingers gently down one long scar that spanned from the point of Edmund's shoulder blade to the small of his back. He traced his fingers back up along a different path, following the line of a scar that ran almost parallel to Edmund's spine. When he reached the apex between Edmund's shoulders, Caspian's gaze flicked back to Edmund's face to find Edmund's eyes open and watching him. Caspian quickly withdrew his touch and said, "Oh, I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to—"
But Edmund just offered him a small, sleepy smile. "It's alright," he said. "You can keep going. It felt nice, actually."
"It did?"
Edmund hummed.

No he wasn’t. When had that happened? How far removed from his own siblings was he that Edmund didn’t even know Peter had a girlfriend?
“And?”
His father interrupts now.
“Well it’s high time you get one yourself.”
Oh.
Lucy and Peter both give him a look.
Peter’s is worried.
Lucy’s is pitying.
He wants neither.
Susan doesn’t look at all.
It would be easy, he thinks, to make up a girlfriend. He has all the details, the memories, the moments, the experience to make her.
Brown hair. Brown eyes. Tan skin. Kind smile. Loud laugh. The smell of the sea.
“Ed.”
“Cas.”
“Yeah, I suppose.”
“Suppose what?”
Susan has finally entered the conversation.
Her eyes are not icy anymore.
They have melted, along with the rest of the sister he knew.
“I suppose I’ll get a girlfriend.”
And that was that.

And King Edmund the Just really appreciated this tradition, at least until the reckless neighboring nations got their hands on this event and quickly hijacked the event in his beloved Narnia. With this tradition ruined and him being for the second consecutive year in this "Marriage Market" as an available bachelor, he hoped that this year the Spring Season would be as unbearable as the previous one, full of dances, insistent suitors and people prepared to whisper behind his back. Until among the debutants he meets the Crown Prince of Telmar, Caspian Tenth.
Story inspired by the Bridgertone Netflix Series.
