it’s edmund’s father who teaches him how to be a man.
he teaches him how to ride a bike (and not to cry when he wobbles and bruises his knees on the cobbles); he teaches him how to fasten a tie (not to slouch when he sits, to say please and thank you, to be polite and quiet and convenient); he teaches him his multiplication tables (heads bent together over the scrubbed kitchen table, edmund’s pen tapping against his two loose front teeth), his words (sounding out the harder ones, black spiky characters on a white page that jumble themselves in front of his eyes), how to play cricket (“not bad, ed,” dad says, and edmund is overcome with boyish pride), how to fish (though, not often, because they’re in london and london isn’t exactly overflowing with lakes) –
of course, he teaches peter all this first.

Summary
It has been hours since the army threw down their weapons; since the Lion roared and the river surged; since Peter kissed each of Caspian’s cheeks and named him a knight. Afterward, Peter was not involved in the proceedings of surrender that have so captivated Susan and Edmund. Nor did he go with Lucy and Aslan to see to the wounded troops. For hours, Caspian has not glimpsed Peter at all. Now, seeing the sweat-stiffened hair, the blood crusting the cuts across his brow; the way he has made no move to rise since Caspian arrived—Caspian finds himself wondering if perhaps he has been here all this time, unmoving, alone.
“What are you really doing out here?” Caspian inquires, softer this time, and Peter sighs.

“Ed,” he says, and Edmund has to shut his eyes at the sound of his name in that sinful tone, “what do you want to talk about?”
So much, he wants to say. He wants to ask boundaries and explain his past and ask stupid things like his favourite colour - green, like the forests surrounding Telmarine - and his favourite dessert - chocolate pudding.
But Edmund feels like he already knows Caspian, like he’s known him for years.
He’s there, nestled in Edmund’s bones, hidden in his marrow, close to the beating of his heart. He’s warm and golden and everything.
AKA: Edmund falls in love.

“How long have you felt unwell?” Caspian brushed a hand across his cheek.
Pressing into the gentle touch Edmund shrugged a single shoulder. “I woke early this evening after retiring. There is nothing to be concerned for. A stomach ache and nothing more.”
Caspian wasn’t one to let his concern be waved off. Lying back down and pulling in tightly he began to slowly rub the swollen space below his navel.
Head dropped forward, Edmund pressed his face into the crook of his neck. “K-Keep going,” he begged, his voice hardly audible.

Caspian let his touch linger, drawing his fingers gently down one long scar that spanned from the point of Edmund's shoulder blade to the small of his back. He traced his fingers back up along a different path, following the line of a scar that ran almost parallel to Edmund's spine. When he reached the apex between Edmund's shoulders, Caspian's gaze flicked back to Edmund's face to find Edmund's eyes open and watching him. Caspian quickly withdrew his touch and said, "Oh, I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to—"
But Edmund just offered him a small, sleepy smile. "It's alright," he said. "You can keep going. It felt nice, actually."
"It did?"
Edmund hummed.
