    Contrary to what his usual attitude might've suggested, he was a nervous wreck. His confidence was only skin-deep, a perpetual thread of worry and anxiety burning beneath it all, constant and ever-present. Inside of him, there were too many thoughts, too many voices yelling around him, too many blaring alarms screaming and screaming about everything that was happening, telling him to run, telling him to fight, telling him to break that smug asshole Kale's nose, all of them overlapping and merging into a single, indistinguishable, roaring noise in his head. Some of them seemed to be helpful, but most of them weren't; not that it particularly mattered, because that all came to a screeching halt, in no more than a blood-chilling, heart-stopping instant, his mind, finally, going silent after a roaring onslaught of noise.

    Or well, nearly. A single thought remained, repeating over and over in his head like a mantra.

    Keep. Korsica. Alive.
