Summary
How long has he been digging out this stupid hole? One hour? Two? Two thousand?
“This better be worth it, you stubborn beast,” Artemy mutters, slowly growing more and more agitated. He’s tired, thirsty, and hungry. He’s about to give up and attempt sprinting past Noukher to get back home when his fingers brush against something hard. His brow furrows together, and he tears away dirt to reveal the wooden surface of something.
Noukher shrieks.
The bull dives forward, and Artemy gets hit hard by his shoulder, which sends him keeling over. After pushing himself back up, Artemy sees Noukher furiously trying to widen the hole with his hooves. Beneath his fervent huffing and grunting, Artemy swears he hears a small sound come from within the pit.
A whimper.
What…?

Summary
“We need you at the Soul-and-a-Halves hideout. It’s important.”
A jolt of worry shoots through Artemy, his hunger momentarily forgotten. “Is it Notkin? Is he sick again?” The memory of the young boy swaying on his feet, barely able to speak, burning with a fever so hot that Artemy could feel it even through the thick layers of rags swaddled around his small body flashes vividly in his mind, and he does his best to repress it. He sees enough of the sick child in his dreams- he doesn’t need to experience that horrid time during the waking hours, too.
Thankfully, though, the kid shakes his head. “No, it’s not Notkin. We’re all perfectly healthy, actually!”
“Then what is it?” Artemy asks. “If one of your Halves is sick, I’m sorry, but I’m not a vet. Contrary to popular belief, doctors and vets are not the same thing in the slightest.”
Again, the kid shakes his head. “No, it’s not that, either. Our Halves are perfectly fine, too! It’s the Changeling, actually.”
Artemy’s eyebrows furrow at that, surprised. “The Changeling? What about her?”

Summary
Daniil is about to go over to the bar and ask them for the strongest liquor they’ve got, even if it means sucking on the stem of twyre, when he notices something.
Slumped at one of the far tables is a figure much too small to be in a place like this. But as concerning as it is that a child is in the pub, Daniil isn’t planning on doing anything about it, it isn’t his problem—until the kid raises their head and brings a dark-tinted bottle to their lips with a shaking hand, and he realizes this is sort of his problem when he sees who exactly this is.
Without a second thought, and without even really realizing it, Daniil is marching over to the table, his snakeskin coat billowing behind him. He slams a hand on the tabletop with a bit more force than he intended, catching the kid by surprise.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” he hisses.

Clara’s heart clenches at the genuine concern in Artemy’s voice, and for a moment, her carefully constructed facade falters. She wants to spill her grievances, to let him see the rawness of her wounds, but she swallows back her emotions, determined to maintain her aloof demeanor.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” she replies curtly, casually. Nothing is wrong. Everything is okay. “Just surviving, you know? That’s what we all do here.”
“That’s what we all did here,” Artemy says. “We’re healing now. Are you?”

Summary
Artemy is in the small, dimly lit kitchen making dinner when there’s a knock at the front door. His head pops up, and he looks over in that direction.
“Who’s that, Aba?” Sticky asks where he’s sitting in the living room with Murky.
“I don’t know,” Artemy replies, wiping his hands before making his way over to the door. He wasn’t expecting anyone... Who could possibly be out in this weather?
When he opens the door and sees who’s standing there, he’s suddenly much less surprised.
“Clara?” Artemy says.
