But death is inevitable, so Héctor rolls up his sleeves, and sets himself to work.

Héctor loved his family, of course he did, but the scars of ninety-six years of rejection were not sated by a single evening of adventure and revelation. Ernesto had done the worst of the damage, spinning a tale of how he'd run off and left Imelda and Coco behind when he was questioned by his wife the last time Ernesto had gone back to Santa Cecelia. No one had really looked into why their celebrated town hero never returned, but had figured that the rich stayed in the big cities, not their quaint hometowns.
