It’s the summer of 1918, and Dickon Sowerby has been medically discharged from the army. It’s a road to recovery, and naturally not all can be healed, but what matters is that he can keep on living in the moors with his animals, plants and also Miss Mary Lennox.
I think this story might make more sense if you’ve read the book, but I hope everyone enjoys it nonetheless.
(Also I’m sorry to everyone I’m trying quite hard with the accent, like how it is in the book)

When they were younger, Colin used to think it was so odd to see Dickon dressed for this night. It had felt so strange to think of Dickon and things such as ties and pressed jackets and done-up buttons. It had felt even stranger to actually look at him while he was wearing any of them.
It’s still strange. Dickon does not quite look like he is fully himself in these formal clothes, and it always makes Colin wish for long days outdoors; days without rules about clothes, without rules at all.
But it is not just strange. It’s also — seeing Dickon standing before him, dressed for a ball, but with his sleeves now rolled up a few times and a couple of his buttons undone.
The sight makes Colin feel warm. It makes his stomach feel empty and yet heavy. It makes him wish he could simply continue looking at Dickon. Perhaps forever. It makes him want —
(or: Colin, Dickon, and a private moment at an annual party.)
