Why do I feel so good but feel so sad?
Oh, pour your misery down on me…Exer Campbell was a young man like any other, yet authentic in his own way. He had his own apartment and a stable life built from his efforts. Once a barista in his teenage years, now the manager of a small cafe. He had the cat he always wished to have, another reward of his labour. Life had plenty in store for him, and it was rarely a disaster. On top of it all, Exer cherished someone. The person with the cutest smile in the world, and the prettiest blue eyes. A marriage that was destined to last forever, to overcome the hardest of challenges, and to hold so much true love that the world around them would just fade away. Exer was there twice.
The fairest in his eyes. At least, she once took that spot. Before it all happened.
The blue eyes he looked for were a tad darker.

The stares were obvious, it was fair enough really.
He probably looked like a druggie or a thug, at least he has something to focus on instead of listening to his thoughts.
Multiple women shielding children's eyes from him, trying to protect their innocence.
A homeless man gave him a pitiful smile.
One young lady asked if he was alright, the man holding her hand looking very mad about the stolen attention.
David almost laughed, the irony of it all almost getting to him.
But he just hummed a noncommittal response and kept walking, almost everyone trying their best to ignore him.

“David… what happened?” Her voice cracked and tears started to stream down her face, like she couldn’t help it at all. That only made David feel worse, and more like it was all his fault, it made him feel worse than when he was kicked out. This one was worse because it was completely his fault, he never should’ve called Kevin lame or anything along those lines. God he had such a loud mouth for some reason, he could never shut up! Maybe he should just stay mute until the day he decides to die.
“It’s nothing Brenda, I will be fine! No need to worry about me!” He exclaimed, he certainly was not the best actor, that fake smile that he plastered on his face was like putting a band aid on a cracked glass of water. It would fall off eventually and then the water would all just spill right out. Thats why he stood up and tried to walk out of the room with all the watery ice bags in his hands, that did not work.

Uncle Larry was the first to react, his hand shooting out to grab Rachel’s wrist before she could do any more harm. “Rachel, no!” he roared, his voice filled with a fiery anger that David had never heard before. Rachel’s eyes were wild, her chest heaving with ragged breaths. She looked from David to Larry and back again, the realization of what she had done slowly dawning on her.
David’s legs gave out from under him, and he crumpled to the floor, the shards of the plate embedding themselves into his skin. The pain was sharp and immediate, a stark contrast to the dull ache that had settled into his body from the night before. He could feel the warmth of his own blood mingling with the cold porcelain, the sting of each cut a grim reminder of the fresh hell he had just endured. His mother’s screams grew louder, and he could feel her trembling as she tried to pull him into her embrace, her own horror and pain mirroring his.

He really needed a new wallet.
Though his frantic searching was cut short, as his brain finally caught up to him he realised that the cashier had just used his first name. Not only that, but they had spoken in a painfully familiar voice.
With wide eyes, Exer paused and stumbled to find any sensical words. “J-Jackson..? What- what are you doing here man?”
