As soon as her name is chosen as a tribute for the 72nd Hunger Games, Annona doesn't know what to do. Annona Springwater was so close to being able to walk away from the age group required by the Capitol to put their names into the reaping bowls of District 9. So close to being able to walk away from the Hunger Games and everything associated with them. Today was supposed to be the last time her name should have ever been entered into the glass bowl.
District 9 was nothing special and growing up as part of the most prominent wheat farmers of the grain district, Annona had her fair share of both labor and the fruits of it for as long as she can remember. Forced to do minimal schooling and tend to the fields during the harvesting seasons, her family became well-known for their work ethic and wealth as they became the main suppliers of wheat for the Capital and Peacekeepers.
As soon as her name is read aloud during the reaping for the 72nd Hunger Games and having to be reaped alongside a boy she's never talked to before, Annona decides that she will try to win the games without killing - even if the other tributes try to kill her first.
