Doris looked up to see a techie, tall, decked out in gear, with only her eyes visible through the thick standard-issued safety glasses, patiently holding out a metallic lighter. She looked at Doris expectantly.
Doris nodded, temporary speachless, and the techie stepped close to light the cigarette held softly between Doris's lips, her sweet perfume making Doris lightheaded.
As the woman stepped away Doris fancied that the ground underneath her must have shifted an entire meter to the left, because her knees had gone inexplicably weak.

Summary
Nicholas Angel, a top cop from London, is transferred to the sleep town of Sandford. Originally, it is a boring life. However when mysterious accidents begin to crop up, Nicholas is hopeful work may become interesting, but no one believes his conspiracies. Days and weeks, but still, Nicholas is only seen as a “looney London police officer”. Maybe he is looney, but he’ll prove there’s a murderer in Sandford. He’s willing to do anything.

While he and Janine had always been courteous to each other on the best of days, Nicholas had always been jealous of her ability to flip a switch and become a kind voice to victims at the drop of a hat. The family wandered off to a nearby bench to take a breather as Nicholas folded up his pad, looking up into a familiar half-covered face, idly noting her choice of face mask was a bit strange out with so much clean air. "Nicholas."
"Janine. Thank you, for getting them some tea, I had planned on getting them some myself." He adjusted his stab vest as the two began to wander down the sidewalk, pausing when she held out an extra cup he had failed to notice in her other hand. "Oh."
