Summary
As the doors start to shut, Espio feels like the world is collapsing around him. Everything slows to a stop, the people crying around him silenced. It doesn’t feel real. Nothing had felt real for a long time.
A buzzing fills his head. Every instinct screams at him to run, to save his family, to do something useful. He’s only been dead weight, he hasn’t saved anyone. Distantly, he feels his legs moving on their own. And suddenly, they push off of the ground, his body running to reach Vector.
“VECTOR!!” He cries, reaching his hand out.
He locks eyes with Vector as he hears Gemerl release the door. He can’t move his arm in time.
Crunch.
OR:
Espio reacts just a tad bit faster when Vector sacrifices himself.

Summary
The Chao Garden was a place of soft pastels and gentle hums, the polar opposite of Jet's usual, chaotic haunts. Water trickled over smooth stones, and tiny, fairy-like creatures with floating orbs over their heads wandered and played. For the "Legendary Wind Master," it was an exercise in patience. For Espio, it was a sanctuary.
Espio is meditating silently by the water's edge, his form almost blending with the green foliage. “The stillness here is remarkable. A testament to tranquility.”
“Yeah, yeah, peaceful. More like boring. So when do we get to the good stuff? The Chao race? Or are we just gonna stand around and watch these little blobs stare and swim?” Jet spat, snapping his fingers impatiently.

Time. It’s a strange thing, isn’t it? What is it like to exist outside of it? Maybe he should ask Silver someday.
He thought about that an unusual amount now. About what Silver said to him. But a lot of things were out of the ordinary right now, weren’t they? He could see the way Silver watched him from the corner of his eye, hoping he wouldn’t notice. A ninja always notices.
Maybe he’s thinking about the future again. Espio wanted to help him get that off of his mind, but he still wasn’t quite himself. What weight is he bearing alone? Why won’t he let him help?
Espio had come up with a lot of different explanations to Silver’s unusual actions, but the truth would’ve never came to mind.

Espionage was always Espio’s strong suit.
Whenever a case required more information that could only be obtained through infiltration, he was the one sent in. So, when his team’s latest mission was to investigate an anonymous tip from an unknown client, he was sent to check it out.
The claim had been believable enough. One of Eggman’s old factories from the war had been reportedly seen active again, gray clouds drifting up from the smokestack every so often. Their client had asked for them to go investigate. It was a concerning case. The factory had never been cleaned out post-war. No one wanted to enter and relive their trauma so early into peacetime, so the idea of a new criminal having access to Eggtech… It practically spelled out trouble.
OR:
After the success and subsequent failure of the Metal Virus, Eggman decides to attempt to refine his process once again. Armed with his new technology, dubbed the Roboticizer, all he needs is one thing; a test subject, to be sure it works. And who better to test it on than an unfortunate Espio, captured during an investigation of a supposedly abandoned factory from during the war?

Summary
The falling object wasn't debris, no. It was a living being. Not just any living being. It was a Mobian, like him.
A black and red hedgehog, with the most peculiar markings he'd seen. Typically, hedgehogs were mono colored, with the occasional multicolor fade at the ends. This hedgehog, however, had red stripes all over his body. It was unique. He was unconscious, and Espio swore he saw faint amber lightning streaking across his body. Shining yellow sparkles melted off of him, flying into the wind before disappearing.
He was covered in varying degrees of burns, and shrapnel had embedded itself in his leg. He looked… Rough, to say the least.
It was the strangest thing he'd seen. But he couldn't just leave him here.
OR:
Trapped on an unfamiliar planet, Espio discovers a stranger who fell from the stars. One that looks like him.
Would he regret helping him? Maybe.

When he finally went to bed he had thought he had written a notable piece, he was wrong. Some poet he is. An embarrassed blush crept through his face as he read the rest of the poem. The word poem used lightly.
Espio had the urge to tear the parchment out of the journal and rip it up until none of the letters were understandable, but he resisted. Every step is progress, it’s what he always told Charmy during their lessons. Although not all steps are graceful…this page will serve as motivation to write better. Preferably his future works won’t sound like a lovesick suitor.
“Espio! Espio, come down!” Charmy’s voice from below broke Espio out of his thoughts.
The chameleon leapt down from his branch, he expected to see a customer approaching their stall. What Espio wasn’t expecting to see was the knight he’d been writing about the last several days.
The hedgehog walked directly towards them. Espio instantly had the urge to camouflage and escape out of sight. The chameleon wouldn’t have guessed they would meet again so soon. He already felt his heart to beat faster every step the knight took.

“Where did you even hear that, Vector?” Espio inquired briefly one day.
‘Ahh, y’know, I jus’ kinda picked it up. Thought it was a good little saying!”
Espio just nodded and looked back down at his book.
When Vector first started saying that phrase, it wasn’t that big of a deal. Espio thought at the very least Vector was just saying it ironically, or even just using it as a simple phrase to teach Charmy the importance of working together. And the saying was harmless enough, it’s not like he says it all the time.
