Yet it was a bitter shock to see you because the last time First looked into eyes like yours had been when he’d discovered his guiding star stabbed in his chambers. First’s scream had been what alerted the rest of the guard to that awful scene.
First had felt his heart try to evacuate his chest when you’d placed a blade against the veteran’s throat and demanded to know who they were, and for a heartbreaking moment, it was like being sent back in time.You were the reincarnation of First’s dead lover, you’re different than they had been, but First can’t seem to stop himself from falling for you anyways.

Long ago, longer than mortals can imagine, there was a man named Link (Later, there was another. And another, and another, and—). Part of his soul had grown bitter with resentment at the destiny that had dictated his suffering. That part was torn apart from him by the gods and left to whither away.
What the gods did not account for was that resentment, left ignored, only grows.
Sky finds himself suddenly and violently thrown into the back of his own head. He no longer has any control of his body. He’s trapped in the darkest corners of his own mind. Sky screams at the Deity, trying to understand what’s happened, but he doesn’t answer.
He has a job to do, after all. He hadn’t lied to Sky, he would do his best to end the curse. And he would do whatever it takes, even if he had to go through a hero or two.

He should have let it go. Instead his stupid, stubborn pride made him attempt to lift the blade with one hand, just to feel a little bit like the time before it all went wrong. Before the visions of destruction, the fear, the mistrust. When he was just an upstart knight promised to have a comfortable life in a comfortable world with his comfortable friends and nothing was wrong and he was okay and not trapped in an ever-cold stone tomb.
But that time was gone, forever, buried well beneath years of hurt and pain. His arm gave out, the blade falling from his hand and hitting the ground with an echoing clang.
Shame prickled at his bony fingertips. But mostly, he just felt sorrow, regret, as they all stared at the shining blade lying among the filth caked on the cracked stone-brick ground.
“Your hero’s strength,” he announced in a quiet rasp. “Do you see what you’ve done to it, now?”
