He still says them every time even though every answer is yes, but Rick doesn't know if there is much merit.
Today, when he asks, Rick wants to say no. He has felt awful due to his deteriorating marriage and horrendous lack of confidence. He is in no mood at all. And yet... he has realized that he is now completely dependent on Roger’s praise. He wishes to be good at least for someone and he’s willing to risk his own comfortability for it.
