    Summary

This is based on the much-requested "Shark Man" character for KI 2013. My take on the concept was that it was basically a new breed of R.I.P.T.O.R. (which would have been an acronym for "Retro-virally Infected PredaTOR") combat model, one that’s designed for aquatic warfare. I gave it some octopus tentacles on the back to allude to the idea that Ultratech was mixing in other species as well, plus to make it a little bit more distinctive from other shark characters such as King Shark, Street Sharks etc.

    Summary

This was a character that I worked on called “Smilodon”, though he also goes by the nickname “The Colonel”. I wanted a big powerhouse of a character for KI, so, because of that, I made him. Along with the forearm mounted chainguns, he also wears a long trench coat with a powersuit underneath. The visor and character in general was very much influenced by a character from “Trigun” called Monev The Gale. It’s a bit hard to tell here, but you can see a bit of his smiling mouth.

So, among some of the potential characters that were considered for a new KI was a tree creature. I kind of wanted to make a woodland entity that wasn't just like one of those Ents from "Lord Of The Rings", if not something that had far more of an ominous and mysterious yet slightly regal air about it. I can sort of see this thing as this huge, faceless god-like being that would just push itself out of the mud and loom over whoever or whatever it stumbles upon. Some inspiration came from willow trees along with some SCP-based creatures for this design.

A design for Jago's master within the Tiger Shrine, who had been alluded to in KI1. I tried basing the design off of Tibetan monks, although the veil was kept from KI1 Jago.

This was a piece of concept art for a Hecatoncheires character that didn’t make its way into "Zahn Und Klaue". The Hecatoncheires in Greek mythology were these beings with hundreds of arms and heads, just these horrifying creatures that were so repulsive that the Titan Kronos had banished them into the deepest pits of Tartarus. I kind of thought it would be interesting to feature some relatively obscure creatures in KI, hence the reason for this freak. Unfortunately, I couldn't think of a proper way of implementing this into the story, thus I had to put this creature by the wayside.

This was another boss character, working name/title was “Nightmare” or “the Dragon King” or something (I’m still struggling with a name). I kind of wanted to make my own Lovecraftian warlord character, hence the gauntlets and the hoplite helmet-like head. I can kind of imagine this character being a very, VERY big character. Like, bigger than Aganos or even Eyedol. Like the hecatoncheires creature, this too was initially going to be featured in "Zahn Und Klaue", but I kind of decided against it in favor of Obscurity. He may come back for a future KI story, though, if there is interest.

Yeah, I’m not a great artist lol.

    Summary

As is pretty obvious, this character was very much based on Onslaught from Marvel Comics.
The basic story for him was that he was a Crusader from the Middle Ages who had captured and studied Spinal for some years, diving deep into forbidden knowledge. Once he had figured out what he needed to know, he had ended up murdering his entire city and army as part of a dark ritual in order to attain immortality.

However, even though he was able to accomplish his goal, it came at a really high price; not only was the power that he received tremendous, but it also had the effect of degrading his body over time. As a result, he had ended up transferring his consciousness into different bodies throughout the centuries until finally coming upon Ultratech or one of its competitors, who would then aid him by creating a special type of vessel for him to use. Through a combination of cybernetics, cross-species genetics, Eldritch magics such as necromancy, horrible surgical procedures and nanotechnology, they were able to make a sustainable body for Maelstrom, along with a containment suit to stabilize his condition, but as it was, he would still be on a ticking clock, and his search for a suitable body would be ongoing.

    Summary

The initial idea for the character was that it was going to be a dragon knight; at the time, I was kind of fascinated with the idea of sort of inverting character roles and thought, rather than the knight being the hero of the story like in many a myth and legend, what if it was the dragon that was the hero and human the monster? So, it seemed novel to sort of juxtapose those two contradictory elements into the character. I have an older version somewhere that shows more of the dragon elements, but over time the character was redesigned as a knight with a very distinctive set of armor. The sword itself had also undergone a number of alterations, but I eventually settled for something a little more intimidating, if not creepier to look at. I wanted some hint of an Eldritch element without resorting to Cthulhu/Cthulhu-esque with tentacles. I may use this for either a potential KI story, or some other fic.

These were some Fulgore designs that I created. There actually have been several different versions with a lot of different head designs. In this case, I kind of wanted to allude to his KI1 finisher where his head turned into a turret, hence the ammo belt draping down from his face.

The idea for some of these android designs was to come up with a kind of genesis for how Fulgore came to be, if not future designs. Because Fulgore was based on a Medieval knight, I used Greek hoplite armor for reference along with some horse skulls to give it a scarier and kind of more visceral look.

A little while back, somebody made a pretty creative hybrid design of King Kong and Godzilla called “Kongzilla”. Inspired by this, I was sort of intrigued by the idea, and so I wanted to see what would happen if I were to combine two of my favorite characters within KI into one character. Thus, this was drawn up. Question now is, what should it be called? RipGore? FulTor? Something else?

    What do you guys think?

    Summary

Malecoda's backstory is that he’s the son of a wealthy industrialist who ended up becoming cursed by the Wendigo, and because of that, he’s in search of a cure. His feet are all bandaged up due to their being burned, and his helmet is an old Air Force pilot helmet that had belonged to his father, but it’s been converted in order to provide him with a steady supply of morphine as a way to keep the hunger that he constantly feels sedated (at least, as much as he could). The Wendigo would not only prey on both other people and animals, but would also torture and feed on its host’s sanity. His brain is akin to a chewed up gumball, constantly warping and twisting at the Wendigo’s whim for its own dark amusement. There would be a lot of body horror elements and humor with Malecoda, and since the Wendigo is immortal, he can’t die. When he initially got his powers, Malecoda’s first thought was to be a superhero, but because of how volatile the Wendigo is, a lot of the time it would twist his good intentions and things would end up going wrong, sometimes comically, other times horrific.

He may be used for a story in the future, be it for KI or DC. Let me know which you would prefer.

Some proposed designs for a potential boss character for a future KI. Since Eyedol and Gargos were dead (at least, in the context of KI1 and 2), it made sense that a new big bad would step in to fill the void left behind. For the character, I was kind of inspired by the sets from "Event Horizon", more specifically the Gravity Drive with the spiked studded ball. I kind of wondered, "what if the Gravity Drive from that film suddenly turned into an actual character or creature?", thus Obscurity was born. Lobo and to a certain extent Midway's horror classic, "The Suffering", were also influences as well.
Fun fact: if you look carefully, Obscurity made a brief cameo in "Zahn Und Klaue".

When I started off with this character, I had wanted to see what other dinosaur-like creatures I could come up with. After all, since Ultratech had made Riptor, it only made sense that it would have similar creatures. For this design, I wanted to lean far more into the body horror aspect of Riptor and cross-species human/reptile hybridization. I kind of used the Necromorphs from the “Dead Space” series as inspiration along with some parts of human anatomy. Fun fact: I was initially going to use this design for Rex for "Footsteps Approaching", but I later decided against it. Suggestions for possible names are welcome.

    Summary

A character that was heavily requested in the KI Community was the Wendigo. When I was designing the creature, I didn’t want to make the creature an animal, because it wasn’t really - it’s an evil spirit. Because of that, I reasoned that it's able to do things to the body that the body itself wasn’t physically meant to do, so, to a tiny extent, I used “Evil Dead” as a reference.
In one version of the myth, a Wendigo grows bigger the more it consumes. In this case, the growth would tear the host body apart, breaking bones and muscles in ways in order to make newer structures or to restructure those parts to suit its needs.
Parts of it would be rotting as it attempts to eat anything and everything, until over time those human parts would inadvertently be replaced with things taken from nature such as stones, tree branches etc as it seeks to satisfy its hunger.
For the design process, I was also playing around with the idea of different types of Wendigos and that they would be perversions of not only the human form, but also whatever ill a person was suffering from that made them that way. I also gave it ibex horns because of their wonderful length and shape, just because I think this gives it a more regal look.
