Summary
The meeting with Lady Johanna Constantine goes a bit different. Hob’s immortality is proven when one of Constantine’s thugs actually stabs him, and the again when he doesn't die of pure terror when it turns out his Stranger didn't actually need a puny human to come to his defense after all.

Summary
A crossover event unlike any you've seen before, and a love letter to both Alan Moore's Watchmen and Neil Gaiman's Sandman. Someone is murdering time travelers and speedsters in the DC multiverse, and hardly anyone has noticed. Meanwhile, one of the Endless seems to have gone mad, affecting reality in a myriad of unsavory ways. (Delirium didn't do it, and can't help.) All of spacetime begins to unravel. The only chrono-kinetics left alive in the entire DC multiverse must find a missing hero from Marvel's Earth-616... somehow. When all seems lost, an unexpected and powerful ally reveals they've been trying to help all along.
I know the broad strokes of the plot, and many of the characters I'll be using, but I'm going to try to let the characters go wherever feels right from scene to scene. In other words, I use my improv training when I write, so this is going to be a wild ride :-D I've deliberately left out some more well-known characters, partly because they're too powerful and partly as a personal challenge.

[In which the funeral of Roderick Burgess draws unlikely guests, Robert Gadling is stalked by a nightmare, an imprisonment is cut short, past wounds begin to heal, and old friends find solace with one another.]
Over a decade into his capture, Dream’s thoughts torture him as he longs for freedom from the cruel prison he has been trapped in. The death of Roderick Burgess brings unexpected promise and danger, however, as Hob Gadling is summoned to the funeral and finds himself catching the attention of a mysterious figure in dark glasses, unaware of his friend's captivity or the danger the nightmare poses. But when a chance conversation overheard in a nearby tavern leads Hob to fear the worst, the Corinthian makes him a suspicious offer regarding the being below Fawney Rig, dragging him into a deadly plot that means to break Dream’s spirit and accomplish what Burgess could not. Naturally, things do not go to plan, and the healing in the aftermath is not something they can accomplish alone.

“Is it dangerous, this task of yours?” Johanna asked, her gaze fixed on Morpheus. The glint in her eyes was not from fear or trepidation, Hob noted with mild interest. He had seen this look before, on the face of young sailors and fellow bandits in the forest. She was hungry for something. As for what that was, he could not hazard a guess.
Morpheus looked grave, his mouth pressed into a thin frown. The fingers of his right hand made a twitching movement, as if he wanted to reach out to Hob but decided against it. “Yes,” he said after a moment. “Extremely so.”
(Or - Morpheus invites Hob alongside Lady Johanna to undertake a task in which he cannot involve himself directly - a family affair. Whether or not they succeed admirably will be a matter of perspective.)
A story of pushing boundaries; of learning to die and choosing to live; of finding out if love is stronger and more enduring than fear.
