But Aiden, he’d just thrown his head back in a laugh so warm it had heated Lambert to his very core, and not in the embarrassed-rage-discomfort people laughing at things he said normally did. He hates the feeling of being laughed at, but it never felt that way with Aiden.

Lambert has learned to use emotional walls instead of anger to keep others out. The only ones who were allowed in were Eskel and Geralt, his adopted brothers. Even then, he never gave them specifics of everything. After quitting a job in cybersecurity, he found himself back working in the family greenhouse where he got to put his alchemical and botanical talents to use. He got to encourage things to grow and thrive, even when he didn't grow that much himself. His walls were too comforting, too safe.
Until Aiden came along and decided to prove that walls could be grown through.

Lambert was sitting at the bar minding his business when an all too familiar scent hit his nose and Lambert froze. He’d recognise that perfume anywhere - it was one of his, afterall.
His products were pretty popular amongst the alternative crowd so it was kind of strange to realise Milena was wearing one of his perfumes.
That particular scent was Lambert’s take on a classic rose fragrance. It smelled of dark roses, mossy earth, with an odd, cold metallic note that the blurb on his website likened to Sleeping Beauty pricking her finger.
As far as openings go, he was never going to get a better one. So he steeled himself, took a sip of his drink, and steeled himself some more.
“I like your perfume,” he managed to say without tripping over his tongue.
“Oh, thank you,” Milena blushed. “It’s called Prick Your Finger,” she stammered slightly.
Lambert grinned wolfishly, knowing full well that the label on the bottle only said PRICK but that Milena was too damn sweet to say it.

The man is on the other side of the market, at a tanner’s stall. The kid is stood just beside him, and the man didn’t shout, didn’t raise his voice at all, but even quiet it still cracked like a whip and the kid’s not nearly as good as Lambert at hiding their flinch.
