Summary
Hawkeye struggles to adjust to time off after a minor workplace injury, until BJ invokes a favored fantasy. Meanwhile BJ plays with a new angle of an old idea, before Hawkeye catches on and catches up. Together they manage to pass two weeks of vacation more pleasurably than anticipated.
///
Hawkeye pulled away, looking at him up close. BJ’s eyes were very blue. “You’re awfully cocksure.”
“That’s because I’m awfully sure of my—”
Hawkeye yanked his tie again and kissed him.
“My punchline,” BJ protested, muffled by Hawkeye’s mouth. -

a prompt from my tumblr! A cold goes around the 4077, but Hawkeye gets much sicker than that. The others think he's being dramatic and write it off until it's bad.

Summary
If anything good comes into the Swamp, Hawkeye assumes BJ will share. Japanese candy, the latest whirligig from one of the local merchants, even the trashy paperbacks he swears he doesn't read keep ending up on Hawk's pillow with creases in the spine.
Of course, there are things BJ doesn't tell him. But the letter practically falls into his lap. It would be silly, really, to not read it. -

Summary
“When I got the notice for the draft board, I knew–well, I thought I knew–what it entailed,” Hawkeye said, words cracking with subdued emotion. “War meant death, right? Blood and gore, loss, bombs and bullets, death and…more death. So much death.”
B.J. stayed quiet, throat tight and eyes misty.
“It was supposed to be me, Beej,” Hawkeye went on, voice jagged like broken glass. “I got the notice, I was going to this stupid war, this goddamned police action. Where’s the justice in this? The fairness of it all? If one of us had to die, why couldn’t it…why couldn’t it have been me? ”A call from the States, an unexpected death, the ensuing fallout, a different end to the war. Or, better yet, an excuse to put my favorite surgeons through the emotional wringer for a bit of fun.

Summary
“Seeing you sure brings back a few things.” Hawkeye says it like a confession, leaning back in his chair with his head tipped up to the stars.
“You too,” Sidney murmurs, and can’t help the smile that breaks over his face when Hawkeye rolls his head to the side to look at him. “You’re one of a kind, Hawkeye. You were then and you are now. I’m glad to see that hasn’t changed.”
---
Or: When he was thirty years old and living in Brooklyn, Sidney bumped into a young med student visiting the city for a taste of the queer nightlife. Ten years later in Korea they meet by chance once again, and spend the next three years growing closer and more entangled.-

Summary
"You say he's got good hands. Slender surgeon's hands.
Have they touched you? You haven’t written as much, but I get the sense that they have.
Good. I like that. He seems to be another match for you. If I can’t have the pleasure of touching you, I’m glad someone else who’s decent can."
Following Trapper being sent home, he does write to Hawkeye. What he writes changes their relationship, and subsequently Hawk's relationship with BJ in Trapper's absence.
healthy doses of sex, emotional repression, angst, and some healing thrown in there.

Summary
When he turns his attention to the large tent they're approaching, he sees a ghost through the mesh that stops him in his tracks. And then Norton opens the door and BJ realizes that, no, he's not losing his marbles, actually. Sidney Freedman really is standing directly in the center of the tent, in the flesh, and he's staring right back at BJ.
Sidney smiles first, brighter than BJ can remember ever seeing in recent memory, and it wakes him up to catch the door before it swings shut in his face.
"BJ Hunnicutt," Sidney says airily, sweeping his eyes straight down his form and back up again. "By my stars, they finally got sick of you and transferred you out."
~~~
When BJ is summoned to demonstrate a surgical technique at the 8209th, the last person he's expecting to run into is Sidney Freedman. The man has an uncanny ability to uncover the most deeply buried secrets.
Summary
Sidney passes over a glass and they clink them together. "What are we drinking to?" he asks.
That I simmer down, that I make you laugh, that I stop thinking so fast, that we get up to an exact repeat of what we did during your last visit, that I don't make a pass at you and find out that it was a one-time thing—
"To good company," BJ finds himself saying before the silence can stretch out too long.
"The finest kind," Sidney drawls, a tone which catches BJ's attention, but he's already tipping back his drink, and it makes sense to follow.
Summary
BJ hard pivots, throwing on a grin. "This probably isn't what you were expecting when I was trying to find a pretty veiled way of saying I'll make sure I get you off—"
"No, on the contrary, I knew you'd be a talker." Finally there's a little spark in Sidney's unfathomably lovely eyes, that twist of amusement like orange peel in a cosmo. "You wouldn't be able to keep up with Hawkeye, if you weren't."
Summary
Sidney spends all his days and many of his nights thinking through every word before he says it, and so he can hardly be blamed if every once in awhile he goes completely off-book, just totally flubs it and says the very first, very ill-advised thing that comes to mind.
“If I’m being honest, you’re not the swamp rat I ever expected I’d be taking to bed.”
