He is Druig, lead singer and guitarist of Arishem's Children and he is taking the world by storm at twenty-nine. In the distance, he can hear his song playing, Woman in Red, his baritone voice crooning on a vinyl.
But tonight, he is not a musician; instead, he is just simply plain Druig. He is taking his girlfriend, soon fiancée, Makkari, on a glorious date he's promised her, flowers and a fresh pumpkin in his hands.
But it is also Devil's Night and he should've known that hell would have opened its doors tonight, sooner or later.

Summary
They turn to ash and blow away in the wind, and he cries. The survivors' screams of terror turn to grief-stricken wails. He could block it, but he is theirs and they are his. If that contract is heavier on one side than the other, it doesn't matter. He knows he's not a god, but what is the difference to humans?
"Is this what we must let them bear?" he asks the darkness. Ajak is not there and cannot hear him. He can't leave to find out what happened or if his family has even survived this bizarre cataclysm. It doesn't seem Deviant or Celestial related.
As the humans drift off to bed the third night, Druig is struck with a wave of loneliness so powerful it chokes him. Not a human's feelings. He's never listened to his family's thoughts without permission, but he's opened himself to everyone in the area, and clearly, she's not hiding.
He turns around, and she's there. He spent five hundred years mostly avoiding the others, too angry and hurt to expose himself to the world's cruelty again, but surely, surely she knew he wasn't hiding from her?

“Sorry,” He said, turning to face her so that his surprisingly full, beautiful lips were completely visible. “I asked you to pass the mashed potatoes. If looks could kill, you’d be more adept at magic than myself.” He gestured to her quill and stole her hateful note. To Makkari’s surprise, she handed over the quill, perhaps out of curiosity. Next time I need an ego check, I’ll be sure to say something ignorant to you, he wrote.
Before she could process the self-deprecating attempt at humor, the boy wordlessly returned all of this attention to the meal, which he ate with unexpected voracity. This was no common mage. No sooner than she noticed and began to process this fact, he pointed toward another dish and lifted his eyebrows in question. Her brows furrowed in confusion. Where the hell was the supposed harbinger of darkness she’d been promised? Who was this rural dork eating all of her God-given egg tarts?
