Sam rolled over sleepily, surprised to not bump into a warm body next to him in the bed. He opened his eyes and found the space beside him empty and cold. He sighed and closed his eyes again. Higgs had started getting up early and taking walks outside their bunker. It still felt strange to think of it as their bunker, even though Sam reasoned it had stopped being Higgs’s and started being theirs the moment he dragged him back from the tar lake. That was a little over a year ago. But recently, Higgs had been getting restless.
