He was well and fully drunk, and it was starting to feel good.
Perhaps a little too good. The expansion of his blood vessels had jump-started a bit of an itch beneath the BVD's, and what was it they said about certain urges in the face of mortal peril? This was not a night he wanted to spend alone, though the options were dismal.
He took another swig. Pegleg Percy? The man had never met a bar of soap. Cannonball Carl? A little excessive with the “nancy” and “poof” comments, likely not amenable. Cutlass Catherine? Too violent; he wanted to keep his limbs. Sea Dog Doug never shut up about his wife back home, Scallywag Sue had died earlier, and everyone else had scurvy. He was not into missing teeth.
Ah, well. There were worse things than an itch unscratched. Best open the next bottle.
As he fumbled with the cork, a knock at the door sounded. He sighed. Probably someone needed a Band-Aid. How papercuts could strike fear into the eyes of men more scar than skin, he didn't know.
“...Come in.”
The door creaked open.
“It’s Smee, sir! I brought you some of the glitters from the boat - so very shiny!”
Oh. Well.
There was always Smee.
