Asami runs her fingers over the page, smudging the ink in a soft wash of black. She crumples the paper into a ball and slips it in her pocket, thinks about going down to the water and letting it drift on the waves until it dissolves into nothing. Thinks about messages in bottles, and all the impossible, romantic stories of them; how statistically there's no chance they could ever reach the one they're meant for, and how despite that, she finally understands why you might write one. Why you might try, against all logic, against all reason, against all hope.

Every time Asami sees the ocean, she thinks of Korra.
