David and Sam met during the inversion, Sam saves Asher after a shade attack and David feels eternally indebted to him for that, so David starts treating him to dinners at fancy restaurants every Friday(gilmore girls reference) and then those become twice a week, and three times a week, and four times a week, until they're going out for dinner every night, not even necessarily at fancy restaurants just like mcdonalds or burger king or a local start up cafe, Fridays are still for fancy dinners though.

The door’s unlocked, they find after a minute or so of knocking (quite politely, Sam notes. Milo says something about having dainty wrists. Probably a joke Sam doesn’t have enough context to laugh at, or a joke not really all that funny to begin with. Either way, he gives a pity snort and leaves it be). That doesn’t do much to sate the anxious beast looming over his shoulder.
“Hello?” Milo says at the same time that Sam says “Darlin’?”. Normally, he’d lament their lack of the element of surprise, but he had known in his gut that whoever had been in this room was long gone the moment he had pulled into the parking lot. He knows that Milo knows it too.
“Darlin’?” He says again, stepping into the mouth of a wicked and hungry beast. “Baby, you in here?”
“It’s just me and Sam.” Milo affirms, letting the door close behind him after stepping in himself. The jaw snapping shut.
