    A modern era story that delves into Jane's psyche, exploring the depths behind such a guarded and kind character that begs recontextualization/interpretation. Quite angsty and pine-y.

    “What a shame,” she murmured, allowing herself to gulp the wine in a way that seared her throat with its acrid, dark burn. How had this happened? She had completely deceived herself, denial in its most tempered form serving as blinders to the true state of her feelings, her heart. Only Elizabeth and Charlotte, of all people, knew that she had begun to really love him. In fact, even more bitterly, she acknowledged that they had probably known before she did.
    In the course of a lifetime spent knowing what and how she ought to be, and following this prescribed mold to the letter, she had never before felt the giddy, exhilarating joy his carefree earnestness had brought out in her. To be sure, she had always been perfectly content, but now everything was out of order.
    It was as though the surface of some perfect lake had been abruptly disturbed. Charles Bingley’s nimble fingers had skipped stones onto the mirrored plane, the smooth, flat rocks soaring and caressing before finally, finally, sinking into the obscure and muddy depths.
