"The guilt wasn't logical. That was the maddening thing. He knew it wasn't his fault. Adam made his choice and that was that. Regardless if Max was going to turn on him or not, Adam knew what he wanted from the beginning. But grief didn't listen to reason, and it had been living in the corners of his chest and waited for the worst possible moment to clump up in his throat.
Because no matter how many times he told himself over and over that it wasn't his fault, something about the way Adam looked right now made Max feel sick to his stomach. Had he somehow protected Adam the night he broke his ankle, there's a chance he may not have ended up in this position, sick, frail, desperately clinging onto the past while the world passed him by. Now, it just felt totally unfair to sit and pick on him when karma had already done the job for him.
Max swallowed the guilt down. Not his burden to carry anymore."

Three days ago, Adam’s sleep was interrupted by Roddy shaking him awake. In his first hazy moments of consciousness, he realized that he’s covered in a thin sheen of sweat. Roddy was equally as sweaty, hair disheveled like it usually is when he’s just woken up. The shouting crowd, the rumbling of the mat beneath him as someone leaves while another rushes into the ring, and that catchy, funky disco music. Even though he knows what’s probably happening, Orange needs to see with his own eyes. Needs to see her.
Things are still hazy all around, so he’s squinting, but even with his vision slightly obscured, it’s enough for Kyle to see the panels of the barricade playing an entrance video that’s bursting with cyan, magenta, and yellow. It’s enough for Kyle to know she was here. -

Kyle described that feeling as unexplainable once, claiming that Adam would know what it is when he feels it. Problem is, he couldn't have possibly felt it with his best friend. This is the same guy he travels with on the road, the guy he spars with when he's trying to learn something new, as Roddy has more in-ring experience than he does and only then does their age gap matter. Nothing about Roddy is appealing to him physically and he's far too gone emotionally for them to even think about hooking up if he was interested, which he isn't.
Suddenly, the food felt cold to the touch and his stomach flipped on him. Roddy's laugh got kind of annoying after a few minutes so he started playing music quietly through his speaker to drown it out. The rest of their hangout session went agonizingly slow, and Adam cussed himself out for not joining Matt and Nick earlier when he had the chance.
