Summary
Middleton is suffocating under an endless drought. When the spiritual lake turns pitch black, the village reaches back into its darkest history to revive an ancient tradition: a husband must be offered to the Water Goddess in exchange for rain.
Ron Stoppable, the baker's son, single, unloved, and entirely overlooked, didn't exactly get a vote in the matter.
Cast into the lightless depths and shackled as an unwilling offering, he finds himself in the sunken palace of a red-headed goddess. With eyes like cold emeralds, she looks at him as if he were a mere insect, when she deigns to look at him at all.
