Something about her innocence should put him off, Spooky thought. This girl had looked so down earlier, full of discomfort and false bravado. Now, her lips were stretched into a smile and her eyes were outshining the sun and it made him want to smile with her. He knew he shouldn’t care, but she was a part of this community now; the big, dysfunctional family that was Freeridge. That made her Santos responsibility.
He took on a lot of that responsibility. Because he was their leader, and that meant it was on him to keep the neighbourhood safe and the Santos in line.
“You’re sweet, Spooky.”
She said his name as though she were challenging him. Maybe, to her, the words were true. He could be sweet when he wanted to be, and right now, with her, he wanted to be. It was nice to stop being Spooky - the tough, responsible gang leader - and just let himself be Oscar.

Although she'll never admit it once Oscar came into her life, she never wanted him to leave. No matter how much she tried to distance herself from him she always gave in and came back but when he's released from prison and comes back home Akira must figure out her feelings and relationship with Oscar before he decides for her.
