He vaguely remembers Matt and Saraya going apeshit to separate them and keep them separated, but that was a background inconvenience, like a mosquito buzzing in the distance. Annoying but negligible. The whole world was negligible for a few, heavenly seconds. Because in those few, heavenly seconds he had all he wanted. He had Ruby.
Catching her made him feel like a hero rescuing his damsel in distress, even though Ruby is far from a damsel and certainly doesn't need him to get herself out of any distress. Still, he helped. That has to count for something. If the flowers didn't woo her, this surely did.

He's getting quite desperate.
The match didn't go well, especially because he was so preoccupied with Ruby that he accidentally forgot he was supposed to root for Anna. Oh well. Neither of them won, anyway. Matt can't chew his head off for helping out the wrong girl if Ruby didn't with either. He also guesses this means it's okay for him to want to check up on Ruby. For reasons. Reasons that have nothing to do with the way his mouth ticks up at the corners and his heart flutters every time he sees her.
