Over the twenty years of Hoffman's police career, they stand at odds on ideologies of delivering justice and cleaning up their corrupt city. When Maddox and Hoffman are assigned to investigate the Jigsaw murders, she would have no idea that the man she trusted the most was one of Jigsaw's apprentices the entire time.

Summary
Mark Hoffman is shocked that Amanda Young is using a dating site; he is even more shocked when she gets a date with a man whose initials are P.S.
Mark begins to let jealousy take him over, and he stalks Amanda on her date with the mysterious man…the man turns out to be Peter Strahm, the current thorn in Mark’s side.
Mark’s jealousy continues, but he is eventually confronted by Peter, who knows of Mark’s connections with Jigsaw through Amanda.
Pete makes a proposal to take Jigsaw down, freeing Mark and Amanda of any wrong doing…Pete also makes another proposal, which Mark readily accepts after some hesitation.

Summary
Amanda is tasked with killing Adam permanently; she has a mental breakdown after she does so, which Mark witnesses. He takes pity on her and carries her to rest in her bedroom; he also checks on the recovering Dr. Gordon before he heads out for a bit.
When Mark comes back, he sees Lawrence comforting Amanda, which makes him a bit jealous, but not in a conventional way. The two become closer as the weeks progress, and Mark accidentally witnesses them having sex in the warehouse basement. Things are furthered complicated when John reveals that he has changed one of the nerve gas traps to a needle pit, which upsets both men.
Mark leaves with Lawrence before he exposes his relationship with Amanda to John; Mark takes his co-apprentices to Lawrence’s apartment, where they discuss John’s change to the needle pit to Amanda, who is reasonably upset.
Mark reveals that he saw Amanda and Lawrence together in the basement; the couple reveals to Mark that they want him to also be part of their relationship, which he slowly accepts.
Now united, Mark proposes a plan to take down John Kramer, once and for all.

Mark Hoffman is tasked with policing the city’s Fall Block Party. He is also being teased by Eric Matthews for not “having” a woman in his police car yet. Mark is not a prude about the act, but has higher standards than hookers and barely legal girls that some of his co-workers have had in their own police cars.
As the block party winds down, Mark meets a woman by chance, who needs a ride home after her friends ditch her. He takes her home, but finds that she does not want to go into her apartment with her roommate’s abusive boyfriend being there. Mark and the woman, named Amanda, go to a local park to chill out for a bit.
The two smoke cigarettes on the hood of Mark’s police car while exchanging personal stories…Amanda soon finds herself in the back of Mark’s police car, but not for illegal reasons.

Feeling betrayed by the law he swore to uphold and missing his sister, Mark makes a choice to end it all after a night out with Eric and his work buddies at Hooters.
Mark decides to make conversation with a brown haired woman that is the bartender at Hooters, who he has been harboring a crush on. Mark tells the bartender about his sister, and has a small breakdown.
The mysterious woman senses that Mark is about to do something that he will regret later, so she decides to invite him back to her apartment for drinks and conversation….and maybe a little more.

Amanda is not sure what she thinks about the brooding, all muscle man that has become part of the Jigsaw regime. She definitely knows Mark does not take John’s teachings as serious as her.
She finds Mark truly struggling with staying sober on what would have been his sister’s birthday; so Amanda offers to help him with his cravings, in a way that is not conventional (or recommended IRL).

One night, after an argument, Mark and Amanda end up having passionate sex, that leads to a relationship of sorts. Unknown to Amanda, Mark observes who is think is John watching them that night. Mark feels that he now possesses a power over Amanda that John can never have. Though he doesn’t want to admit it, Mark begins to fall in love with his co-apprentice.
When John requests Mark’s help in writing a letter for part of an upcoming game, Mark soon realizes that John will not let Amanda go, even if it means blackmailing Mark and Amanda being killed.
