“Um, thanks.” he mumbled and the boy tilted his head.
“Magnus Bane.” he introduced himself and Alec nodded, shaking his hand.
“Alec Lightwood.”
Magnus smiled, looking over to the floor behind himself, releasing Alec’s hand. “Dropped your phone. I’d say I was sorry for running into you, but you’re the one who knocked me over, so…”
Alec blushed. “Yeah, um, sorry about that.” he stammered as Magnus stared him up and down.

Lifting his gaze, Alec meets Isabelle’s eyes as she moves to squat on the floor beside his leg; placing a gentle hand on his kneecap. They stare at each other for a moment, until Alec sighs and nods his head. He reaches out and take the hand that is on his kneecap into one of his own hands; his grip light but meaningful.
“Jason is- he’s fucking horrible, Iz.” There’s a stray tear falling from Alec’s eye and down his cheek, but he makes no effort to reach up and wipe it away. Isabelle can feel her heart drop as a lump tightens up her throat, why does bad things always have to happen to Alec?

Three years ago, Isabelle doesn’t think he would be having this conversation with her brother. That she wouldn’t be sitting here on her couch with Alec as he smiles so softly, cheeks a little flushed at the admission he had made.
