    Spoilers for The College Tapes Episode 20

    “Is he ok?” Mark asks and Sam glances back at Joan nervously.
    “Mark, I’m sorry,” Joan says and he feels the world pause around them.
    “He’s fine,” Sam rushes in to clarify and Joan bites her lip apologetically. “It’s just….’
    “He had to be put in a medically induced coma,” Joan explains, sitting herself down beside Mark and taking his hand nervously. “We don’t know for how long though.”
    Mark can’t think, can’t process any of the information. He can see his sister’s lips still moving but the sound doesn’t register anymore as he sinks into the chair.

    Oliver is in a bad state at the end of Episode 20 so they take him back to the AM and he has to be put in a medically induced coma. This is very not fun for Mark (or Oliver).

    After Oliver goes to visit his family, he finds himself in a problem of his own making. When you lie to your sister that you’re in a relationship so she won’t attempt to set you up, what are you supposed to do when she asks to meet your new partner?

    The answer is obvious, of course, though Mark isn’t as enthusiastic as Oliver had hoped when he proposes his scheme: they go to Oliver’s sister’s 40th birthday together, keep up the ruse, then they can go back to being roommates with no one the wiser. It seems simple.

    Except on the horizon, a revolution is brewing. The truth about atypicals is on the verge of being exposed to the entire world, and Mark is about to be thrown into the centre of a media storm, dragging Oliver along with him. Suddenly they’re not playing pretend for their family, but on an international stage.

    Ray had taken one look at Mark that night, sitting there at the back table shivering and clutching a mug of tea like it was a lifeline, and had said nothing except 

     

    “You know how to hold a tattoo gun, boy?”

     

    Mark hadn’t. He does now, though, almost two months after staggering into Ray’s storefront and falling asleep on Jaylah’s couch. He finds it comforting, almost; tattooing is so different from photography, but the buzzing gun in his hand brings pictures to life in ways that settle the anxiety in his chest. It’s creating something permanent, immortalizing something loved and treasured; he gets to watch these pieces of art come to life beneath his hands, but instead of freezing a moment in time, he brings to life walking canvases.
