This is my first fic. It's a really detailed one that focuses on more than the King being the antagonist, we'll get to that eventually but the first half is more on developing Alina's relationship with everyone else, especially Aleksander. Because these relations will all come in handy later. Furthermore, our two main characters have challenges and all to work through before we get to the King. I haven't given out any spoilers here, just that it's a warning that this story is more than the King being the villain. But I hope you will consider reading and enjoy the entire ride :) -

There is a girl called Alina Starkova, and she does not want anything but her peace. Wants can be a strange thing. The girl called Alinechka is hardly ever present, hidden behind a mask called Miss Starkova.
There is a man called Aleksandr Morozov, who plays a borrowed Guadagnini with utmost control and clarity. There is a boy there somewhere called Sanya Baghrich who does not like playing the Mendelssohn concerto in E minor.

The Icarus/Darklina mashup nobody asked for - smashing Darklina and some scraps of Greek mythology together and shouting "NOW KISS" before tearing up some Thrice lyrics and throwing them overtop like pretentious confetti.
In order to maintain its virility, to be kept at its full potential, the beast required a regular diet of otkazat'sya. Each year, fourteen tributes were sent from the mainland with the Morozovs’ regular shipment of supplies. There were volunteers, especially at first: those who were elderly, failing, willing to give their lives in service of their country. Most were compelled: criminals, deserters.
The tributes disembarked after the supplies. Most were old, infirm. The last tribute to descend the ramp was a young woman: pale, dark haired, a shawl the color of goldenrod wrapped around her thin shoulders. She fixed her gaze on Baghra's distended abdomen and smiled. Baghra promptly forgot her, and did not pity the tributes. Their sentences on the island would be brief.
