Nothing ever changes.
Except for the part where the galaxy died, you got shoved onto a massive space ark full of warlords, bounty hunters, ex-tyrants, and at least one giant space dog, and now you're stuck sharing a room with Wander—the most insufferably, irritatingly, stupidly in love with you optimist in existence. Yeah. Everything's totally normal. Look, you were thriving before the apocalypse. A menace. A legend. A self-proclaimed agent of chaos with a penchant for stirring up intergalactic nonsense and occasionally ruining Lord Hater's life just for fun. But now? Now you're trapped on The Star Nomad—a flying circus of egos, weirdos, and Watchdogs—and things have changed.

Summary
Peepers has been feeling midly sick lately. But it's fine. In between taking care of Lord Hater, dealing with his troops, and managing some very unwelcome feelings, the commander already has plenty on his plate. His health can pipe down.
Which it does, for a while, until he starts coughing up flowers.
After that, everything rapidly decends into the very much "not fine" category, as Peepers begins a race against time and a disease he can't comprehend in order to save his life.
But he will take care of that too. He'll be fine.
...Right?
