Summary
Sokka has been an unfortunate victim to many uncomfortable realizations in his life.
When he was sixteen it went like this: the deranged, reckless, fire-breathing prince that chased them across half the world was (as little as Sokka wanted to admit it at the time) actually kind of cool. Now, he’s twenty one, sparring across from that same prince (now a king) in a small courtyard at the heart of the Fire Nation, and he realizes that not only is the Fire Lord actually kind of cool– he’s also really pretty.
OR
After the war, Sokka goes to the Southern Water Tribe to help his people rebuild. Five years later, he accepts the role of ambassador to the Fire Nation and returns to a city and a man that are almost unrecognizable.

Summary
Sokka raises a brow as he takes in Zuko’s clearly run down appearance, head cocking in that irritating, knowing way of his. “Well I was planning to cuff you upside the head in front of all these people. But it looks like life has already done that for me.”
Zuko’s brow pinches, chest tightening at the frustrated tone he is treated to. “Are you mad at me for something?”
If anything, Sokka looks even more aggrieved. “Oh, I don’t know, it’s almost as if I received several letters from your council, and one very pointed one from your Uncle about this event.” His arms cross, and Zuko takes a deep breath to avoid staring at how his robes loosen in the front with the movement, splaying wider beneath the tension of his forearms. “I sure loved hearing from everyone but you that a search for the Firelord’s future spouse was happening.”
Or: Zuko is pressured into finding a spouse, and Sokka shows up to smack some sense into him (and get dicked down, nasty style)

“For the last time, no, I did not kidnap these kids!”
Sokka cocked an eyebrow, once more taking in the scene before him. “Look, can you blame me for double checking. I mean, your favorite pass time when we were young was trying to kidnap a certain child.”
The glare on Zuko’s face didn’t hold the same level of irritation it normally did; the wiggling infant in his arms was most likely a large part of that. The baby was clinging to the bottle of milk at their mouth, eyelids blinking slowly as Zuko slowly rocked them into a slumber.

The last thing Sokka expected to wake up to, was his husband with two very young girls in his office. It was a morning that was going to change both of their lives.

“I think your boyfriend might be on drugs or something.” Zuko kept one eye on Kiyi as his youngest sister gathered up her equipment, his other attention on the women beside him. He wasn’t too familiar with Suki, but he’d spoken to her a few times when dropping his sister off, or when running into each other at tournaments. He’d seen her at the apartment complex, and it hadn’t taken him too long to learn that she was sharing a place with a guy – the guy Zuko had developed quite a crush on.
Suki narrowed her gaze in confusion. “My boyfriend? I don’t have a boyfriend. Wait, do you mean my roommate, Sokka?”
He had misjudged their situation. “If that’s the guy you live with, who came to my work earlier today and nearly drowned himself with a cup of coffee, than ya that’s who I’m talking about. Think he’s on something.”
“Nah, Sokka’s just like that. He texted me about making a fool of himself. I know his flirting is pretty rough but couldn’t imagine it was that bad that he tried to drown himself.” Suki was laughing, waving as the students filled out.
Flirting? No, there was no way he was flirting. After all Zuko was… well he wasn’t the kind of guy that people flirted with.
