Merlin has a hickey. It’s dark violet and sits just beneath his right ear and he’s trying to cover it up with a red neckerchief. Arthur only knows it’s there because he saw it this morning when Merlin padded towards the bathroom. The hickey must be painful, because all throughout the day, Merlin keeps rubbing his fingers beneath the neckerchief, digging them into the muscles of his neck. His eyes get a bit glassy when he does it, like he’s enjoying the ache of it and Arthur? Arthur can’t look away.

Merlin may just have been having the worst day of his life.OR: Merlin and Arthur end up in a sorcerer’s cave. The only way out is by using magic. Neither of them like the idea very much. Arthur ends up surprising Merlin (and possibly himself as well). It escalates from there.
