Summary
The one good thing about living in a hell of his own making is that nobody’s around to call Viktor a voyeur.
That’s not what he’s doing, really—he just likes to pass time by watching other universes. It’s more of a compulsion. A way to make sure that the Jayces of the multiverse are okay. And there’s one particularly interesting universe that Viktor found just the other week.
Snowstorm? No.
Hextech? Check.
Viktor and Jayce meeting? Check.
Viktor and Jayce being partners? Absolutely not. But they had been, once upon a time.
Or: Mage Viktor peers into another universe and finds a Jayce in need of some unconventional saving.

Summary
Viktor once asked him if he did it because he wanted control. He had laughed at that. Control. Doesn't everyone want control? It was a benign and cliché desire at this point, but, in a pathetic way, Jayce conceded. He did like the control he felt, how practiced and calculated it was. It was yet another depressing and inevitable aspect of who he was, a control freak and perfectionist who needed this, needed a release when the itching beneath his skin became too incessant, too pointy.
It was hilarious, then. How he was one of the most powerful men in the city, and yet still scrambled for a semblance of power and autonomy like a little child foolishly sneering at the unjust world. He was messy and afraid and erratic, and while there was a conceited satisfaction in it, an exultant happiness at seeing how truly far he could spiral and use his own power against himself again and again, it was, truthfully, the most out of control thing about him: how he self-contradicted; how he ruined himself in hopes of improving himself.

Summary
Viktor had walked into their lab in a good mood to see Jayce bent over, coughing and hacking delicate little red and white flower petals all over their floor. Jayce had noticed the interruption mid-cough and nearly choked on the next round of flora and spit, his eyes gone wide and his face the color of a tomato. Honestly, he'd looked more like Viktor had caught him with his pants around his ankles than with a common psycho-respiratory infliction.
Well in the interest of honesty, Viktor had felt like he'd caught Jayce with his pants down in the middle of an affair.
Those feelings in mind, Viktor feels his younger self can be forgiven for breaking the horrified silence by flatly commenting, "Gross. Try to get over that quickly."

The hexgates flare to life, and the room is bathed in brilliant, cascading light. Arcs of energy ripple across the gate’s surface, bending space into a shimmering, kaleidoscopic void. For a second, Jayce thinks he hears something—a faint, harmonic hum, like a note held just on the edge of hearing.
It works.
Jayce’s breath catches, his grin splitting into something wide and wild as he turns to Viktor. “It works!” he shouts, his voice breaking with exhilaration. “Viktor, it works!”
Viktor doesn’t answer immediately. He’s staring at the gate, his expression unreadable, his eyes reflecting the shifting lights. And then, slowly, he nods, his lips quirking into a small, tired smile.
“Yes,” he says softly. “It does.”
For a long moment, neither of them speaks. They just stand there, side by side, watching the impossible unfold before their eyes.
In every timeline, in every universe, with every possibility, it starts the same.

There was a saying: the more that topside changed, the more the undercity stayed the same. And Viktor, who walks with a crutch and a brace in the Talis house colors and wears a uniform made from cloth that costs more than what a hundred workers in the mines could ever make in a year, has never been able to mask what he knows everyone sees everyday—a Zaunite. He always belonged to the place that kills the flowers. It doesn't matter that he’s stayed in Piltover longer than he has ever lived in the undercity. He was Viktor from Zaun then, and he remains Viktor from Zaun now, looking up at the last traces of light spilling from the skies that kissed Piltover.

Summary
Noxians were not prone to speaking their feelings plain, something that Mel missed about Piltover. About the man she’d known there, the one with the gap in his teeth and the soft, uneven mouth that smiled when she kissed it. Instead, her countrymen located their grief in their war-worn bodies, and loss was conveyed in the vocabulary of wounds and battle scars.
Grief was a cut, an untended sore that burgeoned and ached. It was a cleft in the muscle that immobilized the limb. The carve of a wound that refused all healing.
Mel grieves.

He trembled with the weight of it, unsteady, unsafe. Here, in this place— where he grew up, where he made boats, tied up and tied down by his leg, kept away from all the other children, mind at work and body in agony as always— and it felt like sacrilege.
Viktor had always known. He’d known it since before he knew what words were, a core truth of his life, even before he began to cough with the pollution of the mines in the Undercity. His time was limited.
