Crazy crossover concept, one of the few bookmarks I'll be making just as a to-read reminder.
Oh, and to convince the author this is a concept worth pursuing. There's so little attention being brought to it, which I get if people are turned off by crossovers or haven't seen/read Kaiji, but I really hope it doesn't end up dead. I loved my watch of both Kaiji seasons, I loved the stakes, but I never really felt connected to any character other than the MC. This is such a boss fic even in concept and I am excited to see it tackled by this writer.

This might be the first fic where I've burst into tears after someone drinks a cup of tea. Not that it takes much to get the waterworks going in these tough times, but sheesh.
I'm so disappointed in myself that I stopped reading Wrightworth and AA stuff in general ~2018. Probably because I'd convinced myself I didn't have time to play through SoJ.
But oh my gosh. I needed some angsty Wrightworth hurt/comfort. This pair is very special to me, and my love for these beautiful disasters has only gotten stronger with time.
I've been with them for a lot of my formative years, grew up with them, and they've grown considerably. There's something a little sad but satisfying about seeing characters age and change, and seeing them go through so much and still prevail here is just so sweet. So lovely. I love them, even if their dynamic is a little different than I'd expect (not the vers part but the age gap).
Soooo yeah. I've left any semblance of legit review in a comment, because what are bookmarks for, if not for weirdly personal and easily-findable, embarrassing rambles?
Brb on to my increasingly frustrating personal life stuff and an equally painful/comforting HxH fic. I'll have to check out that Franz sidestory soon if it's up and ready.

Warmed up to Illumi and Kalluto considerably with Zoldyck centric fic, but now Milluki too? He's a grump and a shut-in, but him worrying for his overprotective big bro and little Kallu is really heartwarming.
He might be the MVP here for me, as much as I love Hisoka and Illumi. I got a lot of insight into him and why he is the way he is. He's not unlikeable, either. I was there with him through all his worrying, and the scene with him and Hisoka on the phone, anxious together, was something genuinely painful to read.
It's interesting to see Hisoka react to the situation with his usual persona but obvious concern too. He dosen't suddenly become a do-gooder vigilante, but even his dubious self is disturbed. I can see him reacting this way, even as enigmatic as he is. And poor Illumi - I already felt sorry for him with the Zoldyck pressure and upbringing despite his own flaws. But dealing with *this*? Damn :(
Obviously it's to a lesser extent in canon, but I sometimes remember how Silva and Zeno aren't just handsome badasses and have seriously messed the family over. I'd like to see a bit more of Kikyo and the butlers and what they think, the snippets we've got are pretty intriguing. And some are fleshed out in such a way like Tsubone, with only a few sentences, that makes me feel very different about them. I think that's impressive.
I might've cried when Illumi tugged on Hisoka's arm in that pivotal chapter. I'm a sappy bugger.

Neither of them understand why Gon (who, despite being gifted, is definitely human) develops a mysterious knack for fae magic along the way. A group of magically talented murderers are travelling in the same direction and will kill them on sight. Even if Killua and Gon survive Aiai, they must eventually part, so falling in love is out of the question. Or so they both say, at the start.
Slow burn. Unconfessed love. Jealousy and possessiveness. Deepening friendship and desire.

I wanted some more Serena and Sylv interaction after re-reading that one fic by this writer, I didn't expect to find a pairing fic! One chapter in and I'm loving it.
Am in a similar position as this writer in that I love gay as blazes Sylv, but I can also really see him as sexually fluid. We know DQXI has attention-to-detail in so many aspects of its design, and Sylv's resistance but not total immunity to the legendary Puff Puff makes you wonder.
As well as the beautiful writing here, I find that a Serena and Sylvando interaction is so comforting to me personally. I see myself in the more shy, withdrawn characters that many would rightfully say are boring or uninteresting. I'm also a contradictory mess in that I enjoy public speaking and am a former theatre kid, so I identify with performer type characters.
Anticipating Serena come out of her shell and explore a bit more with the aid of someone so understanding and sociable as Sylv gets me unreasonably emotional. I feel like this writer is gifting me with the equivalent of a warm hug.
Substantially less sleepy me will go and binge this tomorrow, cuppa in hand.

Jeez. This author has a way of describing settings and writing character dialogue that tug at the heartstrings.
My real gripe is that it's so awesome, I wanted more. The structure kind of felt like the last act was missing, if that makes sense? There's so much potential for conflict and it fades to black before everything should be kicking off.
The King's probably not too happy with a prisoner not showing up for a scheduled execution. Illumi is rather pissed with Killua getting away. I kind of wanted to see more interactions with Killua and the resistance type group. Plus, him and Gon working through the massive fallout they've caused. Multiple parties searching for them and it'd be so tense... arghhh!
Clearly, this writer channels the Togashi tendency of amazing set up to tease the readers and then go off in a different direction. Damn ^^"

I'm really emotionally attached to Gon, bless his heart. He dosen't have as clear of an arc as Killua does, has some of the same knucklehead MC tropes we've seen a ton in shonen, and being so innocent to the world means that when he falls he falls in an extreme way ... But I love this kid. He's just such a likeable little guy. Often I feel like both in and outside the fandom a fair few people see him as overwhelmingly selfish and a Goku rehash where Killua picks up the slack.
Now I'm not burning people at the stake for preferring one amazing character over another or even just disliking a character I love (ahhh sad times)! It's just that I personally care about both these kiddos a ton, love watching them interact with each other, and I connected with Gon way more than I thought I would.
Little 'I love Gon' rant aside (where did that come from ) this is so sweet. I have a fondness for seeing characters I love struggling through a transgender experience, then to be appreciated by their loved ones.
Killua's reaction to Gon's reality is so sweet, but IC and genuine. It's also done with an awareness of how kids work when being presented with some new concept, without the exact language to explain their thoughts but without as much prejudice we're exposed to later in life.
There's an innocence but an awareness in the dialogue of young teenage Killua and Gon, without unintentionally overstepping into awkward sexual subtext.
Very short, simple, to-the-point, but it touched my heart and a concept I've not seen explored with Gon before.

I'm at page 24 of the handy little ebook ver. I've got of this and am already hooked. Wow. What a engaging and unconventional opening.
EDIT - finished!
Unconventional, charming and well done, especially under time constraints of a Big Bang. Gon and Killua are so in tune with their canon selves in the dialogue and inner monologues. I like seeing the darker aspects of Gon explored as with Killua, and holding themselves to account. They're the same likeable, adorable melons who get unfairly manipulated by others. But they take responsibility for whatever they do regardless.With the concluding chapter, so many loose threads from the interrelations of the wider cast, finding a cure for Gon and the promise of 2 other fics in a trilogy it gives a nagging feeling of having amazing potential but being unfinished. Whether this was a standalone or a part in a trilogy, think it would be benefited from a more clear structure - beginning middle and end. Still, it was spellbinding esp when taking into account the constraints. I won't get my hopes up but I'm hoping for some continuation someday.
And now I need to go sleep. Crums.

This is a lovely little fic that I can tell didn't exactly go the writer's way. There are little typos and places I wanted to story and characters to go further, but my golly what an interesting world they made and played around with. Wish the ending wasn't as rushed so we could learn how the whole operation works, the state and motives of the government, and society outside. I love me a Fallout-esque outside world!
I'm not familiar with the source of inspiration for this particular dystopian AU, but that didn't impact my level of enjoyment.
I hope they wrote more multichaptered Killugon with this level of creativity, because I'd be excited to sink into it!

Aha! I love a fic with dramatic irony so strong it makes me cackle on multiple occasions. Only we know Killua is a guy (for like a few chapters). Only we know Gon's the mysterious prince! It's playful and tense and mysterious and funny and heartwarming. Add in a bit of royalty AU which I love (also kudos to mysticqueen for another great fic of that nature) and it's my jam.
This is so deceptively layered , too. What once seems like a funny 'oo one of the fair maids is a guy' kind of back and forth constantly surprises you. There's actual stakes here, the damsel is very much not in distress, fighting, blood, double crossers, espionage. And I may have cried at the end.
Absurdly well written, and there is no shortage of exceptional Killugon fic. This might be my favourite in a sea of great Killugon. This might also be my favourite Killugon writer when there is so many incredible ones to be appreciated in this fandom.
Other things
- Great ensemble cast. Leorio and Kurapika make unexpected appearances (from the other fic of theirs I've read this author is good at this)
- Melody appreciation!
- I can't stand Palm in canon for the most part. But she's so likeable and sweet here.
- Cool use of Hisoka , which is always a plus in my book
- In every well written aged up Killugon this is a thing but I'll mention it because it's so impressive to me : their aged up dialogue convinces me they are adults. Keep in mind these kids, while very much kids in their experience of the world, are mature and have suffered much for their age in-canon. Keeping their personalities and innocent attachment to eachother while aging them up in dialogue rather subtly is just amazing. I really want to write Killugon sometime as well as other HxH pairings. But I really don't think I have the mettle to do it as well as you guys do!Anyway, this kept me up unreasonably late. What a good fic. Now I'm going to get some sleep, dk if I can be bothered to make this more readable in post.
