Walton, by all accords (including that of his own), had always been a stubborn man, but the regrets within the scientist’s eyes as he dazedly recalled his tale had degraded his desire of glory as quickly as it had formed. His arrogance had almost deflated in a sense, his eyes decidedly travelling against the frame of a once beloved, intelligent man who was almost a shell of himself— Walton feared that this fascination was nearly predatory, for his reverence of such a raw man seemed to be a transgression of sorts.

Summary
In which after Scene 16, Ivan's suicide attempt fails, and he lands himself in the hospital. He feels awful, mentally and physically. Even after realizing what he's done, he still can't seem to change no matter how much he wants to. The hospital eventually assigns him a therapist and he hesitantly goes to see every week.
He knows Andrew doesn't want to see him anymore. But he can't help but ache whenever he sees things that reminds him of Andrew. He brings it up to the therapist, and tries healthy coping methods.
After a few years, they bump into each other again, but Andrew still doesn't want anything to do with Ivan. And Ivan respects it.
