Ivan plops the helmet onto Lovro’s head, clasping it closed and following it up with a flick to his nose. “Fashionably.”
Lovro stares at him blankly, and Ivan sighs.
“C’mon, Lovro, I’m always a little late. It doesn’t mean I love you any less. In fact,” his eyes light up with whatever nonsense he just came up with, “my heart grows fonder for every minute I take to get here. How’s that?”

Lovro is in a bad mood this week. Or at least he's trying to be. 5 times his attitude gets the better of him, and 1 time Ivan finally figures out what’s wrong.

“Yeah, well, you look like shit,” Ivan shoots back before collapsing back into the chair. “I’m serious, what the hell were you doing? And don’t lie to me, I already spoke to the doctors.”
“Why do you care?” Lovro says. “And what are you even doing here?” Now that the initial shock horror has worn off, all Lovro can feel - aside from intense, uncomfortable pain all over his body - is pure confusion.
Ivan looks at him, then, gaze heavy and significant. “Turns out I’m still your emergency contact.”

He inhaled and exhaled a few times, trying to steady himself. But when he tried to push himself up, a terrible pain shot through his right arm. It was sharp and dizzying. He winced as he collapsed back to the ground. It wasn't just pain, something felt wrong.

“Hello?” Ivan’s voice hasn’t changed. There’s no reason why it would, but the familiarity of it floods Lovro’s entire body with warmth. Suddenly, there’s a lump in his throat, and his mouth fills with saliva like he’s going to throw up. “Lovro?”
“You still have my number saved,” is, inexplicably, the only words Lovro manages to form, fuelled by the shock that Ivan knew who was calling even without him saying a word.
There’s the huff of a laugh, close enough to Lovro’s ear through the phone that it almost feels like Ivan is right next to him. It’s terrifying, really, how even the sound of Ivan breathing is enough to relax every muscle in Lovro’s body that he didn’t know was tensed. “And you have mine, apparently.”

Lovro had discovered a lot of things about himself since he’d met Ivan. That he’s gay - though that had been less of a discovery and more of a truth that became impossible to avoid the second he had laid eyes on Ivan. That he’s more resilient than he’d ever thought he could be, flourishing into himself even after seemingly endless weeks of misery. That his heart is capable of being so full of love that sometimes even he doesn’t know what to do with it all, to the point that it stifles him, leaving him overwhelmed and incapable of speech.
The last thing that he expected to learn about himself is that he's a clothes thief.
