“Ah, none of that.” Shen Yuan said, pulling the boy’s arms away so he could thumb the tears away from his cheeks. Which, he realized a little too late, was not as comforting as hoped when it brought the point of a vicious claw so close to a weak spot. Looking into Luo Binghe’s eyes was like looking into a lake at night, the dark waters reflecting bright stars that rippled with a liquid sheen as more sparkling tears coalesced and dropped warm past his thick lashes onto Shen Yuan’s thumb.

What a little ladykiller in the making! A baby bishonen! Past the bruises and dirt was the face of an angel. Shen Yuan had never felt the urge to coo at something adorable in his life before. It was probably his new bird body. He restrained himself to wiping away the tears, and then one of the smaller smudges of dirt on the other’s cheek before drawing back.
“Crying at your age, aren’t you embarrassed?” He asked, fanning himself with the curve of his wing and then hiding the lower half of his face with it (what expression was the original goods supposed to have?? Any info would be nice, non-existent system!).

Summary
Yue Qingyuan had always been able to see the red string that tied his finger to Xiao Jiu’s. That is, until the day Shen Qingqiu awoke from a fever—his memories of their past gone, the thread severed.
Heartbroken, Yue Qingyuan let him go. Shen Qingqiu was happy, even with someone else.
Millennia passed after the Peak Lords ascended. Yue Qingyuan buried himself in heavenly duties, pretending not to notice the red string that still dangled from his finger without any connection.
Then, one day, while observing the modern era, he saw it: the thread had reconnected below.
Following it led to a hospital room, where a young man was nearly declared dead from choking on a mantou.
OR Post-canon SVSSS, Yue Qingyuan ascends and lives all the way to the modern era, reuniting with Shen Jiu who transmigrates into Shen Yuan's body after his death.

Fat tears filled Luo Binghe’s eyes. They rolled down his cheeks silently and dropped one by one on Shen Yuan’s face, making it look as if his shixiong was crying with them.
“Shizun, I’m a half-demon. I can’t change that. But shixiong—he still chose me. So why… why couldn’t you?”
(A re-telling of SVSSS where Shen Yuan doesn't transmigrate as Shen Qingqiu, but as "himself", later becoming Luo Binghe's shixiong.)
