Jack froze in panic as movement happened to his right, he spun to fix the flashlight on the creature only to find a man holding a shotgun pointed straight at him. The man held the gun with steady hands, shaggy curls surrounding his head like a halo. Piercing blue eyes staring straight into his soul, a kid no older than twenty nine held the gun that was trained onto his chest.
"Howdy friend, are ya lost?" The man asked almost mockingly, voice spilling out like honey and sugar to Jack's ears. "Don't you know it's late friend Gotta be careful of what comes out at night." The man warned, voice the same mocking tone. Sounding loud in the eerily quiet forest, almost like it was curious of the interaction too.

Sometimes you have good days, maybe it will last for a month, or a year.” Robby continued his voice sounding forcefully cheerful, as if he was trying to be optimistic. “But it feels worse when you get pulled under, cause you never know when you will be able to breathe again.” His voice changed again to be more monotone, as he took another drag. Both men waiting in silence waiting for the smoke to fill his lungs. Both sitting like two sides of the same coin, Robby calm, looking out in the distance with a sort of resignation that he couldn't quite hide, while Dennis looked close to tears, hands clenched in his scrub pants as he tried to hold back tears.

“Hey, I'm home! I got a bunch of-” Robby announced as he rounded the corner, looking into the bathroom to see Dennis in the bath, clutching a cigarette between pale fingers. The smaller man flinched at the loud noise of the door opening, dropping the cigarette into the clear water. The cigarette went out with a small hiss of hot ash meeting water, smothering the heat almost instantly.
“Shit-” he hissed, refusing to look at Robby and instead focusing on the bathroom tile. Keeping his face hidden by curls and the dim lighting of the shitty bathroom.
“You're smoking? You quit, I thought you were quitting.” Robby asked, even though it was more of a statement; he knew Dennis was trying to quit, they both did. The unspoken reminder of it, in the form of nicotine patches under the sink, enough to last until the next shopping trip, which was a week and a half from now. Dennis seemed fine, using more fidgets than normal, but it was manageable, having been using a chewable rubber necklace whenever it felt really bad.

Robert took a drag from his cigarette, the familiar burn filling his lungs with a feeling close to nostalgia. Smoke enveloped his lungs like an old friend; the soothing, burning sensation was all he focused on as he closed his eyes. He held the cigarette between his thumb and pointer finger, rubbing his thumb along the lower part of the paper. Today had been tough to say the least. The first day back, even though the SDN building had been destroyed less than a week before. The higher-ups had told Blonde Blazer (Mandy) that they would be relocated to an empty warehouse to use as a makeshift home base until the building had been fixed. Though Z-Team was upset at the change, bitching at Robert all day like he had any control over it at all.
“Bunch of toddlers-” He muttered under his breath, no real heat behind it as smoke started swirling around from out of his mouth. Forming a wide variety of patterns and swiggles as it floated up towards the starry night sky.
